Is there not a good young coach with great energy, great enthusiasm with some pedigree ?

I don't get the necessity to hire an older coach that has won a natty and been living on his laurels since. Didn't we learn anything from Kansas hire of LM.

McDonnell isn't that young, but he fits the rest. And he's won at the top level.

Godwin is who you are describing to a T though. Or Vitello, but I think he's kind of a piece of shite whose mouth will get him and LSU into trouble.

Yes, there is.

The key is finding the right mix of results, projection, and fit. Only focusing on one over the others is short sighted and lazy.

Pat Casey won 3 national titles. His last coming all the way back in 2018. There has been exactly one national title winner since he last won a title.

Comparing him to Les Miles is a bannable offense.

Pat Casey's last year of coaching was in 2018, where he won a national championship. This is not "living on his laurels since". this is 3 years ago.

Coach who was fired for performance going to one of the worst schools in college football history =/= one of the best coaches of all time going to one of the most storied programs of all time, 3 seasons removed from a national runner up.

Kansas hired Les 11 years after he won a NC and unlike Casey, Les was fired at LSU. He didn't leave on his own terms.

Casey won the NC in 2018 and was on the cusp of the NC series in 2017 with the #1 team in the country (ironically, it was LSU that kept them from the championship series)

Les's "star" had dimmed significantly by the time Kansas (a terrible program who no one can with with) hired him. Casey was literally at the top of his profession when he chose to walk away.

The two situations aren't comparable AT ALL

PLUS, I don't recall LSU fans desperately wanting a younger HC when two months ago when LSU hired a 59 year old Kim Mulkey who was 2 years removed from her last NC.

Casey would be a very similar hire. The only difference is that Casey has been retired for a few years. Yes, him retiring because of burnout is a concern. But perhaps it is a situation of absence makes the heart grow fonder. Maybe he was burned out an needed to step away...at that time. But now he is reinvigorated.

Hell, had this search taken place just last year and Casey emerged as the leading candidate I bet LSU fans would be ESTATIC...just like they were with Mulkey this year.

You are basically asking for something more difficult than a yeti riding on a unicorn grown in the Elysian Fields to be magically sent down to LSU.

I didn't compare Casey with LM....just the idea of hiring a coach because he won a natty. Some of those coaches are real coaches, but my point was that some aren't....just lucky as heck....ie LM.
After saying he was burned out, Casey is now thinking about coaching again....my concern is that he is just looking at the big payday and coasting. That is what we got from PM imo. I don't want that again, and that is all I was trying to convey. I would rather pay a younger coach less money and give him incentive pay for team success. I am a believer in incentives, not paying for past successes elsewhere...but that is just me.

People keep bringing up Les and Kansas like he wasn’t shitcanned at LSU 4 games in. It wasn’t an age thing, he just wasn’t coaching well and couldn’t be considered a good coach at the end.

Yes there are tons. But that’s not what LSU wants. LSU demands the best name out there

You have to be pretty damn "lucky" to win three national championship. Casey is a "real coach".

Answer this question: What are your expectations of the program? Is it just to reach the postseason every year? Well Maineri has done that. Is it to play in the CWS every year? Well, none of the "younger" coaches have accomplished that at the same rate as Maineri. Is it to play for and win NCs? Well, Casey is only two seasons removed from winning the NC.

Plus, no "younger" coach worth a damn is going to accept a incentive based contract. He'll just stay where he is and continue to have success with a GUARANTEED contract. When you are "in demand" (and I assume you don't want LSU to hire a mediocre HC) YOU have the leverage against potential employers. You're not going to leave your current good situation for the POSSIBLITY of a big payday. You are going to demand that big pay day upfront as the incentive to leave.

It sounds like your ideal candidate is Blake Dean

I didn't say a completely incentive type contract. I think a good young coach should be paid much more than he presently makes for sure.....but don't jump out and pay a coach 3 million....how about 1.5 million with incentives. Paying a coach 3 million a year, which I read was something on the table for Corbin or someone, is paying them for what they have already done. I don't believe in that approach. Skip had never won anything and he is the best coach of all time. He earned at LSU what he got paid.
