re: Is the qb situation at LSU finally heading in the right direction?

quote:What??? Les loved a running QB. Harris couldn't run the ball because defense's knew they didn't have to defend against his passes.
And this is exactly how Miles and Cameron literally ruined Brandon Harris. Miles did not want his QB's running the ball, even when pass plays broke down (receivers not open, rush gets to the QB) and running was something Harris was very good at.

Yes I believe the qbs are headed in the right direction, but LSU needs the Oline to make leaps in the right direction. The best quarterback in the world needs time to throw the ball.

I have to disagree. Every good QB LSU has had since Flynn has been a transfer. Every non transfer in-between those guys hasn't been very good, and if it wasn't for Burrow transferring in LSU would have been in a world of trouble last year.
Seems to me it doesn't really matter how they got here, whether by transfer or straight out of high school, just as long as the staff see's the problem and addresses it. If Burrow makes the leap this year into being one of the better QB's in the SEC, then I would say that is a big sign that this staff knows what they are doing as far as landing and developing QB's.
With the offense talent we have returning I expect Burrow to really show his talent and have an excellent season. Would be very surprised if the doesn't.

But O saw what happened to the last G&P guy. And O's momma didn't raise no fools. So now, O is ALL-IN on the Spread/RPO - and it will be explosive! TITTB !!!

Burrow was a finished product when he got to Baton Rouge as a college graduate developed by the one of the best QB gurus in CFB history.
While Burrow had a fairly good season last year, he was hardly a world beater. He had barely seen the field at Ohio ST before he got here and was a long ways from being a "finished product". I think we are going to see a big jump from him this coming season in both leadership and production over what we saw last year.
I know you are one of those posters who doesn't want to give this staff credit for anything, But they are the ones who saw the hole we hade had QB position and went out and got Burrow, then worked with him, got him out on the field and run the offense. This year after another year of working with him and his familiarity with the system, SEC experience, and talent returning around him, I think you will see a huge jump from him and from this offense overall. I think you will this season that he has developed into one of the top QB's in the SEC and it wouldn't surprise me to see him go in the top half of next years NFL draft.

etling is the quarterback for the New England Patriots practice squad. Pretty sure he can throw the ball 30 yards
holy shite...
I agree with boxcar.
its amazing watching lsu fans shite on a qb that was drafted by the most successful nfl coach ever.

If he were all in on it he would've hired an OC adept at installing the RPO. He wouldn't half-arse it by hiring a low level Saints assistant and keeping his crony in the main spot. Ensminger's presence directly refutes that he's "all in" on the spread/RPO.
He's not all in on any offensive philosophy. I suspect deep down he doesn't want to abandon the USC offense, so he says we're "multiple" so that we can still run elements of it.

I don't think they are "all in" on a spread/RPO either. Even Orgeron hasn't said we are going to a full on spread offense. Thought the goal was more along the lines of a west/gulf coast offense modeled somewhat off the saints offense but geared more towards the college game with RPO's playing a bigger part. Even before Brady came on board they were studying the Saints offense.

Forget stars. Forget ratings. There’s just not many elite QBs period. Of all 130 something FBS CFB programs and the countless more FCS programs there may be only 1-2 truly elite QBs that come out each year that are good enough to play let alone start in the NFL as a quality player.
LSU hasn’t identified or recruited very quality QBs recently. There’s been a discernible lack of evaluation talent on the staff. That is hopefully changing and hopefully out of Brennan, Parrish, and the two 2020 commits, LSU hits on at least one and comes out alright.
ETA: even with that being said, our OL hasn’t been anything but average since 2015.

WHO DOES NUMBER 2 WORK FOR
Posted on 6/15/19 at 5:19 pm to wrongRob
They need to decide what the want to be. Is it pro-style or dual-threat. Stop recruiting both left-handed and right- handed QB's. Decide what you want to be, and recruit accordingly.

After the thrashing at Alabama hand and the score a big fat zero. You can only go up from here...

You mad? I'm not sure I understand your "?"
Providing you (tandrews37 Member since Jun 2019 103 posts,) seem to be new here, are referring to my comment "not a lot of noise from the rant calling for the #2"
Let me explain. Ranters in seasons past have typically called for the #2 qb over the starter when said starter struggles. This really isn't an exclusive club, most teams regardless of the level they are playing in have this common division and opinion from the fan base. One can't always disagree sometimes it warranted.
This season is the first time in a long time it's not the case here at LSU. Hence the thread. Hopefully LSU can keep JB healthy.
Like others have mentioned, hopefully LSU can get decent play out of the Tackle positions which truly is suspect. This to me (my opinion of course) is truly the team's greatest position of need, even greater than stacking the team with 4 & 5 star qb's I don't care how strong, accurate, intelligent the qb is, they can't keep a play alive laying on their back.

had more nfl drafted olinemen than Clemson has had since 2008.

so we shouldn't go after a QB like Lawrence, the Clemson QB, , because he is listed as a pro style? This kind of thinking will get you nowhere. You after go after the best QB you can get, regardless of so called style, and then run plays have success with.
