re: Is it safe to assume Orgeron was more than happy to see Aranda leave?
I think he absolutely was ready to replace Dave.
I also believe Coach O is talking more from a scheme standpoint as to where the defense is now and being able to maximize your talent. There is no way you can lose the talent and experience from the defense and be better before you even line up in a game.

PQ, Devin White and others would not be first round picks without him. How many first rounders came from the dline in the last few years? Aranda runs a defense like we see in the pro’s. When he had his full compliment of players, they were outstanding. There were key injuries and other issues (Delpit, Harris, Divinity, etc.) hurt this defense. When they got together for a few weeks, they were unbelievable.

Aranda was the DC on a national championship team. Orgeron is an optimist. I'm not sure if it's safe to assume Coach O was more than happy to see his National Championship DC leave.

agree... but I liked the 3/4.... its more multiple and easier to adjust week to week... so many things you can do in it... Aranda was just a damn genius

I do agree with the genius part and Its not like i was glad to see him go. I think we will still be multiple no? Not quite the same but its not like teams are now licking their chops to face the LSU defense. I think we will be more aggressive.

Aranda was the best DC those last three game post-season games IMO.

What he did against OU and Clemson's offense was unreal. Especially Clemson.

I wish people would respect Aranda more.

I hope Pelini is better, but let's see. I would rather what Aranda did in terms of getting better when it mattered most than say a coach who had better overall stats, but gave up more scores against the OU's and Clemsons..

Aranda earned his pay.

No I dont think it is safe to assume that. CEO had a great working relationship with DA. Just because he bragged about what they are doing now on D does not mean he is undercutting DA. If anything I believe he is freshening his bait for the big fish he is trying to land in Smith and Foreman...
It's the ABC's of being a college coach:

Always Be Cruitin'

You can bet everything he says is with one eye (at least) towards the best recruits.

I see it the same way Broski does... this is primarily a nod towards Bo rather than a scowl toward Aranda.

Aranda's players seem to adjust pretty well to the NFL
Guys like Devin White, Queen, Jamal Adams
The dline play has definitely fallen off or it's not showing in the NFL

Im honestly not sure how talented we were on the DL, other than KLC it was a tick below what we've seen in the past

Shelvin and Lawrence were beasts last year

Orgerons happy to be running his own D but if he’s happy we lost Aranda he’s a fool.

I know I was glad he's gone. I'm not a fan of "bend but don't break."

Against one of the toughest schedules in the nation LSU ranked 6th in opponents third down conversions. We had a GREAT defensive coordinator last year.

I like Pelini’s style more for LSU. It fits our offense and our style of defensive talent. I expect our defense to be better for two reasons. First, our talent and experience should be a little better (if Shelvin returns). Second, our offense probably won’t score as much, so our defense will be more focused.

re: Is it safe to assume Orgeron was more than happy to see Aranda leave?
I think Orgeron is just more comfortable with a more straight forward style of 4-3 base defense because that’s what he’s comfortable with because that’s what he personally understands best and that’s what he recruits best. I don’t think he ever truly got his head wrapped around how Aranda operated. I think Aranda’s defense was based in large part around confusing the offense. I think Pelini’s defense is also designed to implement a certain amount of confusion but I think Pelini does it in a more conventional way. Orgeron understands what Pelini is doing. Orgeron didn’t understand Aranda’s defense; which was true of most people.

Aranda was good but incredibly over rated. He won’t be missed

re: Is it safe to assume Orgeron was more than happy to see Aranda leave?
I understood the need to keep Aranda when he got the job and he understood his greatness but at the end of the day Aranda’s style of defense isn’t what O would like to have.

O is a recruiter through and through and the style of defense he wants is an attacking style that lets athletes just be athletes. He felt that Aranda’s style would hamper that some.

Aranda is a do more with less guy which is a compliment to his coaching ability. With LSUs talent, you need to let er rip like Leslie said at okie st.

All I give a damn about is that they came together for the stretch run last year and our defense was lights out,

It's funny how everyone becomes overrated once they leave LSU.

We had people saying this about Chase 2 weeks ago.

Pretty amazing he shut down two of the most elite offenses in the country on the biggest satge while not being focused.

I think Dave needed a lot of time to get the LSU D in shape last year, which it eventually did.
