Is Harold Perkins ready to start at ILB?

If we don’t get an experienced ILB in the portal, that probably forces Perk to play that role in 2023.

ILB is the QB of the defense and requires an elite understanding of it and opposing offensive sets. Harold projects as an ILB, but is he really ready for that role as a true sophomore?

House will put perkins in the position that gets the most out of him. I do expect him to have more responsibilities

I agree, but it doesn’t look like LSU is getting anyone in the portal who can play that role. Hopefully an experienced and talented true ILB enters the portal.

Perkins is incredible, but for a position like that you need a guy who is experienced.

I’d hate to have to sacrifice Harold’s ability off the edge next year to make him play ILB.

MLB is like Qb in the Kelly schemes. Not important.

You takeaway what makes him special. Look at who pro players and analysts compare him to, not one of them is an ILB.

Totally agree. I want to see Perk coming off the edge. That’s what makes him elite.

It’s a failure of the staff if they have to move him inside because they couldn’t get a good ILB.

And who rushes the QB? Sure you can move him outside on definite passing downs but that’s fewer than 1/3 of the snaps and what about 1st and 2nd down? Smith can rush the QB but edge pressure is quicker and has a lot different effect. Maybe we have some secret edge rusher fans don’t know about yet but I’d be willing to be he’s no Perk. I don’t like this idea at all.

My point is that it’s critical that we get the ILB in the portal from Virginia, Nick Jackson. That allows Perk to stay on the outside and wreak havoc on QBs.

I think putting him inside is not playing to his strengths. Just my opinion though.

He’s best as an off ball linebacker and edge guy. Go get a traditional MLB

Perk will thrive at any LB spot.

Dear God no. If Perkins had one weakness this year its his lack of size takes away his effectiveness when teams run right at him. Case in point, Texas A&M.

I am not saying he cant correct this, as he was a true freshman who only played half the year, but his strength is not taking on a 325 lb guard and lead blocker between the tackles.

Chill, BK and House will get a couple from the portal to rotate with Penn.

Plug Penn in at Baskerville’s spot in the middle and keep Perkins on the outside where he’s best using his speed. The younger Weeks kid coming in is going to be a starter once he bulls up a little. He should be living in the gym these next 7 months because he has the ability to play as a freshman.
