He had earned some currency. If he wins the next 2 + we finish strong in recruiting then I'll have some optimisim going into next season

The fan base "as a whole" still loves Coach O.

No they don’t

The fan base as a whole is pretty much indifferent to O at this point. We know it was a down year in the SEC, he beat Auburn, but lost to Troy. It’s more of an acceptance than love. He basically gets a pass until next season. There will likely be 4 new head coaches in the West (assuming Mullins takes the Tennessee or Florida Job). It should be a season ripe for the picking. If he can pull off a Bama win, he’ll have won over the fan base NEXT season. For now, the jury is still out.

For what it’s worth, this is an improvement on my previous view. Since the coaching search I’ve been a vocal O hater on his board. Now, I’m taking a wait and see approach.

Serious question, did we overachieve or underachieve with this schedule?

Yes. Except for all the coaching experts in here.

I can’t soeak for the entire fan base but I’ll give my thoughts.

Has he won me over? No, not yet.

First, even his biggest fan should be honest enough to admit that the search that led to his hiring was a colossal failure on Alleva’s part. I was more than ready for Miles to move on, but it is inexcusable to fire a coach like him early in the season, have months for a real coaching search and still end up hiring the worst coach in Ole Miss history.

Second, a historic loss to a very average Miss. State team and a home loss to Troy should not give any fan a huge amount of confidence moving forward.

Now, he has done some good things. I really appreciate and give him tons of credit for not letting the team fall apart after the Troy loss and for the comeback vs Auburn. And unlike Miles, he did not let the Bama loss torpoedonthe rest of the season.

So, this far it has been a mixed bag. Let’s see how he finishes the recruiting class and how he fares against a really hard schedule next year. If he can go 10-2 next year I might be sold. Anything worse means we are (at best) no better than we were in the last few years of Les.

The answer is simply, he will never win some over. The sad truth is that some people here would rather LSU lose to see O fired, to be able to say they were correct, rather than LSU be really successful.

And the same can be said about the ones who have some man crush nut sucking fetish for O. They aren't fans of lsu, just for O.

And for the record it all depends on next year. I predicted 8-4/9-3 this season and always thought 2018 would be the real test to see if O is for real or just a flash in the pan.

The Jury is still out on Ed Orgeron.

Not all were sold on Saban the first year, he lost to UAB- but things looked better than the year before.

Not all were sold on Miles the first year, the meltdown vs UT- but he held the team together in a situation that none of us could imagine and things looked better than the year before.

Ed got the team to respond after Troy. Auburn was a nice win. But I'm not sure things are better than last year and I don't have a belief, like I did the last two times LSU had a new coach, that the future is bright.

Reality is Ed needs to accomplish at least what the last two coaches did before he can be seen as "winning the fanbase over".

Difficult to judge this season. Beat Auburn and played Alabama well on the road. Lost at home to Troy.

Unless this offense has an accomplished QB, I see LSU losing at least 2-3 games every season. The talent will be there to win 8-9 games every season too.

I don't see a NC type run under coach O regime.

Judging by your upvotes and down votes it is apparent that 33% of rant talkers will never accept coach O.

I don't think they would rather LSU lose. I think they are partially brain dead and hope that LSU wins but it somehow results in O getting fired anyway.
