He seems to be good for at least one deep ball a game and has had consistent production. I don't know if he can be covered one on one.

Ruggs does not belong on this list, unless by explosive you mean he can run downfield really fast.

Hill is probably the most explosive but Chase is more physical and plays taller than his height

Ruggs separation yardage at the time of completion: 3.1 yds

Chase: 1.9 yards

At what point does it not matter? 1.9 is wide open for an NFL QB

Chase has never been a guy that gets alot of separation. I agree with the poster that says he plays taller than his listed height, and is physical. Those are his skills. He is a deep ball threat, not sure I would call him explosive, but still a big play guy for sure.

When I think of "explosive", I think of a receiver who can catch a short pass and accelerate through the defense and score. Chase hasn't shown the "run after catch" ability quite yet, but I will say this...

I've watched every Bengal game and no one has stayed with him on a deep route. He gets by his man almost every time he runs deep. Burrow has under thrown him a couple of times, but on the replays you watch the route and Chase is by his man all the time. I don't know how to quantify it, but I always thought in college that Chase was just more physical in his upper body than the db's trying to jam him and he could muscle his way by them and get open. I'm certain it has something to do with size, strength, and balance, but when db's try to knock Chase off stride it just doesn't work. The Bengals TE was talking about Chase and said it doesn't look like he's running fast, but no one can keep up with him. He's just got an easy stride that allows him to get by his man and keep his eye on the ball and adjust to the throw and make the catch.

You don't need to run after the catch when you blow the top off the defense

He's second in the league in yards per reception and 4th in total yards

. Yea he’s so explosive with 4 career touchdown catches, Chase already has more than him.

A) Chase has caught several slant routes, and sideline come back routes which would limit his separation

B) Burrow has underthrown him a few times allowing the defense a chance to catch up. Example, last week against Detroit Chase ran a deep post over the middle and should have had an easy touchdown. To Burrow's defense, Chase was so open the only mistake is to over throw him, so at least Burrow didn't do that, and the Bengals got the 45-50 yards on the play. But Chase has a td if he doesn't have to slow down and wait for the ball and allow the db to catch up. Which would lower that "separation yardage" stat.
