And yet, this team should be 9-1.

Saban won the SEC his second year at LSU winning a championship his 4th year. Miles won the SEC his third year with a national championship. Let's see if O can match either of these!

Yes if O wins it all he would silence the critics and finally be accepted by the entire fanbase

Meyer has never been a coordinator, as soon as Mullen left his offense tanked at Florida and his offense tanked at OSU when Herman left till he hired Wilson

Dabo was WR coach when he was hired - how does that equal elite offensive mind?

Why did Stoops defense pretty much suck for the last 7 years?

For the last 20 years of Bowden's career he was pretty hands off on both sides of the ball

do you honestly believe this?

2003 lsu won the title
2004 lsu went 8-4

how is that team "on the rise"

LSU brought in 3 consecutive top 5 classes in '14 , '15 and '16.

the only reason the program was on "the decline" was the coaching, miles underperformed with the talent he had brought in, and was relieved of his duties.

You think an offense ranked 45th in a off year is "tanked?" We would kill to have an offense in the top 50.

Also, what are the odds that this Kevin Wilson is an offensive savant that's saving Urban Meyer's hide from embarrassment? Seriously asking.

Urban Meyer always has decent to great offenses. That's his offense, not freaking Kevin Wilson's.

Brent Venables is a better coach than Bob Stoops. I'll admit that without a problem.

Ok?

He had a lengthy portion of his career where he was hands on and had success.

No. Assuming we get 10 this year he would have to get 12 each the next two years. That just isn't happening. I do think he can get to 30 which would be pretty impressive and would be better than I thought he would do

did you pay any attention to the foundation saban had laid here for miles and the recruits he left behind? there is a reason Miles' best years were his first 3. figure out why.

8-4 in 2004?

they finished 9-3 where the HC mailed in the last game in the cap one bowl and we were a controversial ref call against auburn from being 11-1. Also, that was only an 11 game regular season not 12 like now.

so you really think LSU was on the decline as a program after 2004? GTFO moron.

9-3

Auburn was undefeated. Saban also said , and has said it with bama, the toughest thing about winning a national championship is the kids getting complacent the next season.

Are you suggesting our program wasn't in a better light when Miles took over compared to CEO?

Shouldn't have lost to Troy.

State we were young and on the road. had a terrible call take a TD away from of us. No telling how that game goes had that not happened.

Auburn looks pretty impressive and were up 20...great win! Could have lost that and beaten Troy and still be 7-3.

But it honestly worrries me that he is not elite on one side of the ball and very reliant on coordinators for X’s and O’s philosophy.
Letting your coordinators do their job is probably the most difficult thing for a head coach. I'm not sure if Coach O interfered before Troy as most seem to think, but if he did it was probably his biggest mistake.

When the pressure is on 95% of head coaches would over meddle. It is tough to trust someone else with your career when the going gets tough.

He inherited a team that was 1 game away from going winless in conference play. O did not have near the same handicap.

O inherited a team that knew how to win pretty well, and for sure some more talent, but the conference is also better now than it was in 2000 (even in a year like this). He seems to have dealt with a little more adversity though in year 1, having to play so many freshmen.

The notion Saban inherited no one though is a bit of a misnomer. It's not like we won the SEC in 2001 with a bunch of nobodies. He got left some decent talent, especially compared to the rest of the conference at that time.

Guys, Anyone who thinks Saban walked into as good a situation as Miles or Orgeron is daft.

Dinardo left Saban with the same amount of NFL draft picks that Saban left to Miles.
I would assume that Miles left a similar number to O, but only time will tell.
The cupboard is full, but can the chef make a fine meal? I should probably have said can the coonass whip up a good gumbo?
I hope so, I’ve been getting hungry for the last few years. Maybe a nice elephant sauce piquant next year. I heard T. Pittari’s had a good recipe back in the day.

stop perpetuating this narrative.

LSU has 5 scholarship QBs on its roster, and that was AFTER losing Harris and Scott in the offseason.

5 scholly QBs?? There's 4 on the roster. 1 is a walk on QB whose on Scholly for this semester. 1 will be a grad transfer after may.

Do we count “all” of the games he coached, or just the ones after the interim tag was removed?

Or are we looking at a Nick Saban caliber of 26 wins?

People who say stuff like this don’t understand what a dumpster fire LSU football was before Nick Saban. He led us to our first national championship in 45 years and completely changed the culture of our program. We are STILL riding the wave of momentum that Nick Saban generated for our program.
