I'm still bitter over last night's win but there were some nice stats.

The officiating was absurd last night. 21 personal fouls for LSU and 10 against UF and UF had a technical and junk fouls toward the end.
Anyway, the good and first the obvious:
O'Neal: 4 points and one block, should have been 2, and 13 minutes of excellent defense.
Days: 20 points in 36 minuets. Seriously tho, if Days can get this kind of production every game this team has the potential to go to New Orleans.
Wilkerson: 32 minutes of solid defense with 8 rebounds and 3 points.
Fudge with 19 minutes of solid defense, only 4 points and ironically no personal fouls.
And this stands out the most to me: Gaines with 32 minutes and only 4 turnovers. 4 TOs is typically on the high end for point guards but for Gaines this is a huge improvement. It's a huge improvement because Gaines was the primary ball handler unlike other games when Pinson is healthy. With Pinson out Gaines really stepped up. He only had 2 assist and scored 15 points.
Finally Mr. Consistency, Brandon Murray: Brandon had the most minutes at 36 with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 turnovers. I can't say enough good things about this kid. He comes to play every night.

Huge win and it puts this team on a whole new trajectory for the season. Which is scary!

not talking about last night necessarily, but this guy can finish around the rim better than any other teammates. prior to the kentucky game, the team seemed to have trouble inside. Brandon manages to find angles to complete his layups.

We learned alot about this team last night.
1) we legit go 10 deep with little to no drop off.
2) we have no quit. All the chips were stacked against us and our guys never blinked.
3) Days is better off the dribble than he has shown all season. He has a few nice drives and pull ups.
4) Shareef might need a bigger role. I like Efton, he seems like a great kid but Shareef did a ton of stuff that Efton has been struggling with. Maybe we see these guys share that role 50/50 going forward. Like 15 minutes each.
5) Gaines has the clutch gene. When it mattered most, he made the plays.

He looked good. He played hard to prove himself

He does 2 things that I noticed that help him around the rim. 1) he uses his thick body to shield defenders well and 2) he has great timing with pump fakes when its needed.

I was absolutely shocked at how good he played for the first game in a year. If that was him knocking off the rust, I cant wait for what he's playing like at the end of the season.

Wade hates mid-range jumpers. But that has ALWAYS been a great, and woefully underutilized, part of Days's game. He's not a guy who has tremendous quickness off the dribble and explosive athleticism to beat guys to the rim and finish. But he can pull up and knock down the little mid-range jumper. For at team that can struggle generating offense in the half court allowing Days the freedom to take that shot when he wants could be a big boost. Some player's skill-sets require different rules. Wade certainly didn't keep Thomas from taking tough, mid-rang jumpers last season. IMO, he should allow Days that same freedom. That shot was HUGE for LSU last night.

Yep. You now have another 6'10 body you can throw in there. Reid's offensive skill-set is much better than O'Neal's. But with the way this LSU team plays, and the adjustment to this level of competition Reid is having to adapt with, O'Neal could be a better "fit" more often.

Confidence is the greatest performance enhancing drug. And Gaines doesn't lack it. Now, if LSU could just get him to make the simple, solid play more consistently to go along with some of the highlight reel plays he makes.

Days needs to play more around the basket his mid range game is that of a seasoned vet,he can flat score around the basket and he showed that last night. With our defense the way it is we don’t need him to shoot 8 3pointers a game. Not to mention the threat of Days around the basket will open up the outside a little more for X,Murray,Wilkinson, etc whoever is in the rotation. He played perfectly last night I thought

I'm pretty sure it's analytics. You have to make 14-19 footers at a much higher percentage than the three to get the same number of points.

Exactly. Watford too. If the kids can knock it down from 15 feet at high clip WW is okay with it. I'm pretty sure Days has the green light from anywhere on the court.
They don't play this in the NBA because almost everyone in the NBA can knock down midrange jumpers at a high rate.
It's also the way WW teams play defense. The paint and the three point line are guarded tighter than midrange.

I though Wilkinson made two 3’s

Only 1.
He was 1 of 2 from three and 1 of 4 from the entire floor.

Hopefully this is the start of Days taking good shots, instead of just trying to shoot 3's all the time. He should continue to take open 3's, but he's just an excellent shooter from 10-15 feet out and that would open up his 3's by the fear of him driving past his defender to shoot a closer shot.

They really only called about 6 actual in game fouls on them. That is absurd and pretty much impossible
I don’t like saying games are rigged but it’s hard not to think that

It is. Mid-range jumpers are "bad" shots per the analytics. But sometimes a particular guy's skill set may make it reasonable to veer away from the analytics a bit. Days can hit that pull up jumper consistently. So why not allow it to be used as a weapon more often?
After a solid first half, LSU was struggling to find offense in the second half. There was a stretch where Days knocked down 3 mid-range jumpers in a row to keep Florida at bay. Days has been here 4 years. We know is strengths and weaknesses. He, though streaky, can be a great 3 point shooter. He is a terrific rebounder and can get put-backs at the rim because of that effort. He's not a guy that does a great job of attacking the rim off the dribble. It has never been a strength for him at LSU. So let him play to his strengths. One of those is the pull up jumper. While that shot may not be preferable for every player, it is for him. Use it!!

Preface: there were some terrible calls last night.
I thought the flop call on Gaines was actually not a bad call. He played up minimal contact.
But the charge call that fouled out Eason was horrible. It was so pissed. And that POS UF Mckisson or whatever smiling when they made the call pissed me off even more.
