That was the story last year.

O couldn’t get along with him so now he is starting over again. He doesn’t get a pass.

Fisher has a proven system that he needs time to install.

O, hell even his OC, doesn’t have a system that they have installed and made work before. O is basically throwing shite against the wall for the second straight year hoping something will stick.

Comparing TAMs and LSUs offensive predicaments this year again are not remotely the same situations.

As for their stats, I imagine TAM will still be ranked significantly higher than LSU this year and I doubt many people would disagree.

The key difference here is that TAM always won what they did based on their offense. So putting in a new system may cause some growing pains which could make their win total suffer in the short term for the long term good while Jimbo gets his players in and is also building up the defense.

LSU never won on offense. We have our defense to lean on, which is what we always won based off of anyway, which means we shouldn’t really suffer in the win column because our offense, as your numbers point out, was abysmal anyway.

E has been in the program and actually OCd in 2016. He knows the players and what they can do.

Jimbo is again not remotely in the same situation.

So a team with a historically good offense with a new coach that has a proven offensive system should have more growing pains then a team with a historically "not so good offense" that is replacing every skill position and has a new OC that does not have a great track record?

A&M's projected starting defense is predominantly SR's and JR's with a few sophmores. They project 3 seniors and 1 junior on the DL, including the SEC sack leader. They also return the #4 leader in tackles at LB. They have talent. Just not coached well.

The bottom line is that across the board, defense and offense, we rank 122nd in returning production vs 35th for A&M.

Now I know as you do that based on injuries from last season forcing lesser players to start, we actually are in better shape on the DL in 2018.

I'm not lowering expectations for LSU and I'm not even trying to trash your POV. Reading through the thread just gave me the idea of posing the A&M question. I actually enjoy the discussion.

I do; however, think Jimbo's bar should be at the same level as LSU's based on this and my previous stated reasons.

Jimbo has just as big a question mark on defense as LSU has on offense if not bigger.

Plus he still has no qb to speak of.

It actually is an interesting question long term.

A&M has a shite ton of money, recruits in Texas and is close enough to LA for parents to make the drive if they pull an LA kid, is now in the SEC, etc.

When you step back, A&M really has wildly underachieved since joining the SEC. Now...there are reasons. There are only so many wins to go around, and A&M came into the league while LSU and BAMA and AU ran roughshod over the division. But eventually, they are going to expect the same out of their program that we all do. They just spent $75 Million on what they hope will fix this.

Maybe Jimbo is the answer. We better hope he isn't, because having another juggernaut in the SECW is just no way to live...

We just need to make sure we win in College Station this year and I think we will stomp them in 2019. That will be 2 more years of LSU domination of the aggies. If that happens, don't think Jimbo doesn't feel the heat too.

Yeah I didn’t get the impression we were really arguing either. Talking about another team’s outlook doesn’t bother me at all.

I understand the returning numbers for TAM.

I just think it’s being a little obtuse to not realize that Jimbo has a different challenge than we do. E isn’t trying to start from scratch. He knows the system and every player in place, had some success calling plays from our base scheme in 16, and hasn’t even said that he needs to get “his guys” to do what he plans on, whatever that is. He doesn’t have his own “system”.

Jimbo does, and it is very different than what Sumlin built for and ran for six years. He doesn’t know the players, and has an entire system to recreate with players that may not be ideal for what he does best.

And he has to do it without the benefit of a great defense that E has as well. That’s actually the bigger rebuilding project for them

That said, I still think the Ag offense is going to be fine. It won’t fall apart, will probably finish with solid numbers. But dropping a game or two to go 6-6 or 7-5 when they had consistently only been a 8-4 or 7-5 team under Sumlin anyway wouldn’t worry me if I was an Aggie fan.

There is a plan in place and a coach that has had great success doing what he’s doing before.

It’s the unknown of what we actually want and the troubling past of the man trying to get it all together in Baton Rouge that makes it more concerning imo.

Add to that the puppet masters in the AD and board and I agree with you 100%.

Just curious. Anyone can answer.

A&M which has unlimited resources, a popular national brand, consistently solid recruiting classes and is in a talent rich state. They just hired Jimbo the QB whisperer who brought FSU back to national prominence. A&M has been a bowl team every year in the SEC.

What are the expectations for A&M this year?

Take this irrelevant shite to the SEC rant.

"I hope we only win 4 games so we can fire O immediately..." - Average LSU fan who watches every game on TV and hasn't been to Tiger Stadium in 7 years.

Sounds about right. Some people complaining that you acknowledge losses at home to Bama and UGA... they're missing the point.

If we lose close games to Bama, UGA and Auburn, and win the rest, that puts us somewhere around #10 or so (considering the level of competition). Anything less is a disappointment, anything more is to be considered a good season.

Ten wins regular season with a shot at eleven and a top ten finish with a bowl win.

This is LSU and not Kentucky. We have had high expectations since Saban. While Alleva and O have caused some to have lower standards, I say compete for the west and top ten or move your arse down the road. If the schedule is too hard for O, maybe he should have taken his second chance at ULL.

I want that, we all should want that.

LSU has not had an undefeated season since 1958; last one before that was 1908.
There's nothing to suggest we should expect one this year; we play both teams from the national championship game, and two others that played in their conference championship games.

9 wins didn't get miles fired.

Player not going out if bounds just to get another 2 yards got miles fired. If the final score vs Aubie was not 13 to 9 but LSU got snap off with 1 second to go and score is 15 to 13, miles is still coach.

You think like me. LSU should compete well in every game and be 9-3 or better at the end of the regular season. Bowl game must be won.

Offense must show promise. It doesn't have to be a juggernaut year one, but it does have to be competent at the least. Burrow will take care of his business, but what about scheme?

It does but the team is exceeding expectations in all of those cases. A coach is never expected to contend for a title until year 3. Urban Meyer and Nick Saban were not contending for titles in year 2 at Ohio St and Alabama. Expecting LSU to contend for a title this year is just an unrealistic standard that someone sets for a coach that they don't like. Nobody would be saying that Tom Herman needed to contend for a title this year.

I believe the team and coaching staffs expectations are to go undefeated and win the NC. My expectations are the same. Anything less is a disappointment

I can dig this... It's kinda what I'm expecting and anything less would be a disappointment. I can make exceptions if key players end up hurt and we were rolling before hand but we must still compete at the very least.
