and you could get them at the same price (so money is not an issue) who would you take... based on all of the current available information, program trends, etc.

1. O
2. Fisher
3. Herman
4. Mullen
5. Smart
6. Franklin
7. Frost
8. Peterson (edited* added)

These are all coaches that were recently on the market. I can't really think of anyone else that fits on this list.

I am not starting this for any other reason than just discussion. I was sitting here thinking about this and am genuinely curious.

If you have another name, I'm interested in hearing it. Perhaps list your 3.

My pick would be O. I think Mullen is a great coach as well. I think Smart and Fisher are overrated (but still good coaches). Herman and Franklin just don't sit well with me. Frost may be good in the future, but 0-6?

What say you?

Being that I'm actually starting to get nervous about the A&M game...i'll take Fisher.

If I am being honest:

1. Fisher
2. Mullen
3. Herman
4. O

Franklin is a fraud. I was high on Frost but, to be 0-fer this deep into the season? With Kirby, I just don't like him. I think last year was an aberration.

Gary Patterson should be on there.

Fair enough. In all seriousness, what do you see in your top 3 that separates them from O?

This is not a trolling post.... I'm really genuinely curious. I get Mullen and it will be interesting to see what he does with better talent.

I think Mullen, Fisher and Herman had a much bigger challenge facing them than O did. All the pieces were in place for Orgeron.

I like your top 4. I switch O and Herman, however.

Believe O's defense will be better than Herman's. And that will lead to more consistent success.

I don't want this thread to go a direction it wasn't intended. But I will say that it is absurd to say all the pieces were in place for O. The QB culture around LSU couldn't possibly have been worse.

Anyway, I am more interested in discussing the strengths and weaknesses of this list.

I think Mullen is a really good coach. He has always achieved more with less. The team that beat us only had 5 or 6 guys that would start on our 22.

I think if Herman came here, we would not have missed a beat. We're more loaded than Texas is talent wise. Honestly, I think he misjudged the situation and should have come here when he had the chance. He's going to have hell of a time dealing with Jimbo recruiting Texas (along with us and Lincoln Riley).

Fisher has the Aggies rolling in year one. You said we had to assume that we paid the same. He's won a natty. He's not worth $7.5 million and I take Ed over him everyday at their current salary. But if we're paying both $5 mill, I think you take the guy who has done it over the guy who might do it someday.

Not at all. Several difference makers for this year's team were brought in by Orgeron. Burrow, Tracy, Jefferson, and Fehoko.

Mullen has a ridiculously high ceiling, if he can just up the recruiting a little more.

He def knows to develop kids and to scheme around weak points. He has proven to do more with less.

I agree with Mullen.

I just do not like Herman. And, I don't think he would have gotten Burrow, so he'd be playing Brennan now I suppose. I could be wrong, but I would have O over him any day of the week.

I'm anxious to see O and Fisher go head to head over the next couple of years. As someone else stated, I think O is going to emphasize defense and physicality more than Fisher will, and that's one of the reasons I think O ends up with the better program.

Again, going to be interesting to see.

Herman is the only one on your list that will win a natty within 5 years.

After Herman and Jimbo, I like Matt Campbell. A lot. He's waiting on the Ohio St job.

Why so much dumbo fisher love? Take crab leg thief Winston away, what did he do?

It’s like gene chizik with cam newton.

Relationship with FSU did seem to be good, an floor how he left them.

A&M payed wayyy to much, I just don’t see it
