then the committee has done their job.

We spent years and years ranting that the best 2 teams didnt get in the BCS game. I think they have the top 2 teams and I am looking forward to seeing them compete.

There is way too much subjectivity in selecting the four best. Apply BCS formula, expand it to 6 or 8 teams, get rid of the conference championships, and disband this hack "committee."

If sports writers aren't satisfied with the status quo, they can always fall back on the 2003 plan and vote Ohio State the AP champ.

While I agree with applying the BCS formula, I can't see getting rid of the CCs - that's essentially getting rid of the conferences, or will result in that. I just think for an 8-team playoff, you take the P5 champs and add 3 at-large teams. Conversely, you let the 2 best non-P5 teams "play in" for a 6th spot, if we want to hold at 6 versus 8.

That's my compromise.

If you do this then every team in a conference must play everybody in their conference to truly decide who the best team in that conference is.

Might as well do that. Because as it is currently the "Best" team in the conference sometimes doesnt even happen to play in the conference championship

I would have rather had UCF in there. Neither Alabama or Ohio State deserved a shot.

With all due respect to the UCF program they are not one of the four best football teams in the country. If we want the four best to be represented in the playoffs then UCF is not a viable candidate.

There is always subjectivity. Even with 6 or 8. Someone has an “argument.”

This year, only three have an argument in my view (recognizing it’s subjective). What did all the media say between the end of the BigTen championship and the announcement: three have punched their ticket, now we’re waiting to see who is fourth.

Bama may very well win it but if they were not in the playoffs, no one outside of Tuscaloosa would view whoever wins the title to be a fraud. The Buckeyes are left out instead but no one outside of Columbus is going to have any problem with any of the four teams being the national champ because Ohio State got left out.

The system works. I loved this weekend. You had two playoff games and two elimination games (and one of the elimination games was unclear if it was a playoff or an elimination game). In short, we had a 7 team playoff already.

The "hack committee" and BCS formula came up with the same final four

While I agree with UCF not being in the top 4, I believe there needs to be a path for a non-P5 school. Otherwise, why even bother? Maybe all P5 conference winners and either a play for 6th between top non-P5 schools, or just the highest ranked non-P5 team. Currently, conferences titles and non-P5 teams are meaningless regardless of their performance.

I'm confident the best two teams are in.

And I really don't get what the big deal about Bama getting in is. We went how many years with some conference champions not having a chance to play for the NC? Why does it all of a sudden matter? Every year Notre Dame went they didn't win their conference championship.

No one really thinks this Ohio St, Wisconsin or USC is better than Bama.

I hate Alabama with a passion and would like to see them left out like Auburn was a few years back.

However, I too believe the goal of any system is to ensure the best TWO teams get their chance at the championship.

I believe that happened this year.

There may be some debate about the 4th spot, but seems most everyone agrees on the top 3 picks.

Do you believe that UCF would defeat either of the teams you mentioned? If not, then you have another agenda besides finding the best team in college football and declaring them the National Champion.

I think that all 4 teams should have a shot at being an undisputed national champion. If UCF were in it and won two games, i think there would be no doubt they earned it. If Alabama squeaks past Clemson then wins a sloppy game against Georgia, I don't think it will be so undisputed. If Ohio State got in their two losses would still be there.

No. I agree with a few things mentioned, but he leaves too many variables open for discussion, which will only create problems in the end. However, if you eliminate the championship game and go to 16 teams, no-one will bitch too much about not being named the conference champ, because most of the time if said team was good enough to be included in the conversation to begin with, they'll most likely be one of the 16 teams playing for the championship.
