I would play. I think those that don't are relatively scared pussies compared to their peers.

I think you are being naive. NFL locker rooms are full of people that are only thinking about themselves and their money. Greedy will fit right in.

And what may I ask is immature about putting your family's welfare ahead of ahead of one meaningless football game? You want to see immature, go look in a mirror.

If they prefer Devin White in their locker room, it's only because they need a linebacker more than they need a cornerback. It's a business, not a fan club.

Dude had everything provided for him free of charge.... meals, place to stay, girls, education.... all for 1 reason: he could play football. He’s fricking over the people who provided that and got him to his million dollar career.

Yep

If Greedy was still a dude on the street in Shreveport the NFL would NOT be on his doorstep. LSU made him the prospect he is now. It is not possible to get to this point without the support that college programs give, especially so if you don't come from wealth. How much would a team of strength coaches designing you a multi-hour every single day program cost on the street? What about private position coach to teach you the correct technique? Nutrition advisors? Video analysis? And even if you could afford or figure out how to accomplish all this, where are you going to get the exposure to show how you stack up to similar players under real
game conditions?

He doesn't owe LSU anything? bullshite.

And all the talk about ‘the money they make for the program’? See all that list above? That’s where the majority of that money goes. these guys are making a ton of money for the school, yes, but most of it goes to provide for the development of the same athletes that re making the money.

It’s his decision to play or not I suppose, but it’s misguided to say that they owe the program nothing. 100% no chance the kid makes the NFL without a college program. 100% no chance LSU football would have gone bust without the kid.

So the whole team, staff, the free education, free coaching, free doctors, free nutritionists, and everyone else involved that helped you become who you are today, you just say frick em!? Greedy needed us to help him and now we just need him to finish his end of the bargain. This is exactly what's wrong with the world today. People put their pocket books over their own character. Money is the root of all evil the saying goes. Greedy is a good name for him even outside the football field.

If I had honor of a lifetime of putting on the purple and gold and playing, I would play EVERY game I was allowed to play.

These baws responding crack me up..

Most of them wouldn’t think twice about calling in sick to their crappy chemical plant job a day after hard drinking watching LSU...quite the “team” player

But we are supposed to believe they would behave differently with millions of dollars and risk of injury on the line..

Yes I would play. And I would set a good example for my kids about finishing what you started and not quitting on your teammates and fans. How to take pride in your work and that money isn't everything.

No, you play your heart out the whole season when trying to make the playoffs. If your team doesn't make it to the playoffs, then you have a decision to make. Do you play a virtually meaningless game against UCF and risk losing millions in future income, or you sit out and assure your family's well being and future financial security. You people are selfish thinking immature morons if you see it otherwise.

Would any of you get a law degree and risk it all by getting drunk the night before taking your bar exam? No! That's risky behavior and so is playing in a meaningless bowl game that puts your family's future at risk.

The NFL is 100% about money...College football is about state pride and being a great teammate. The NFL could wait!

I honestly could not imagine skipping an opportunity to play in a competitive game in any sport.

I also think the fear of getting hurt is a bit overblown and a bad way to approach the game that is about to be your profession.

I mean, even with ACL injuries the recovery time has been reduced dramatically. You would likely not even miss a full NFL season your rookie year.

I can see it more for guys that are injury prone or trying to heal up from something lingering. But for a reasonably healthy guy I just don’t get it.

This is my thoughts as well. If he is injured or not %100, then skip the game (unless it is a playoff game). But to simply sit out when %100 healthy is a selfish decision and shows his true character.

He could break his leg getting out of the shower tomorrow. Maybe he should stay in a bubble until spring training.

I could see the outrage over this if the NFL actually had a viable minor league alternative or if players could enter from high school. Then Greedy would’ve chosen specifically to take the college route. They don’t. So guys majoring in pre nfl will continue to go through the farcical system as “student athletes.

Greedy wasn’t even ready to play at LSU his freshman year, so going straight to the NFL was not a viable option.

These kids need the college programs and it is a much better deal than the other major sports minor leagues actually offer.

Except the free scholarship crap comes with room and board and meals. Something every person needs to actually pay for. That has monetary value whether you can admit it or not.

Not to mention the top notch facilities and training they are given access to.

the risk is pretty miniscule that an injury of that magnitude would occur. Players have been playing in these bowl games since the start of the NFL draft many eons ago without this irrational fear and still getting drafted and providing for their families.

yes, I would sit. It’s just not that big of a deal.

So, why should he have played vs A&M? Arkansas? Heck, any game once eliminated from playoffs?

And for the ‘meaningless exhibition’ folks — Lsu’s tank at the end of the year will include this game. It therefore counts as much as any other game, and is arguably bigger than many just due to the amount of exposure.

just because you keep saying this doesn't make it true. This is a huge game for the program and we have a lot on the line in this game.

I personally would have to seriously consider not playing.

My father would beat my arse if I didn't. He'd need my uncles help, but that wouldn't be an issue.

In the end, I know I would. That's the end of a long ardous road. And it's something you can't do a do-over with. Once it is gone, it's gone forever. I woulda killed for the chance to play in a NY6 bowl game. Watching heroics in Orange and Rose bowls, and other SEC teams stepping up and beating the blue bloods fairly regularly... jealous is the word.

In the weight room it's always just one more rep. In summer pads it's just one more play. What's one more game at the end of the road after all that, jammed thumbs, sore ribs, and knees that sound like two pieces of 70's wood paneling sliding over each other.

If the whole damn team, or everybody at my position-squad sat out, it would be an easy decision. But ask T-Bob or Dworaczyk how it feels to be watching instead of playing, knowing that it is a moment gone forever.
