If it is Pelini: defending the spread option
I remember BP being a very good DC and I’m not going to melt if he’s the hire.

However I keep thinking about Arky 07 when Gus bent him over and just about derailed our ship.

This year, 5 of our P5 opponents will to varying degrees feature spread option attacks: Ole Miss, Texas, Auburn, UF, aTm.

The question is has Bo adapted to this kind of offense?

Wildcat isn't the same thing as spread

Wildcat is a read option play with a RB, it’s not a spread option or rpo offense

It caught all of CFB by storm

Because this hasn't been asked 800 times on here the past few days. Leave it up to the professionals (Coach O and staff), they know more than ForeverEllisHugh.

I voiced the same concern earlier and it was called a stupid take. The game has changed, and I worry he’s still gonna use his old tried and true method of lining up someone like Jacoby over the slot and having him get burned all night. In the same breath, I’m sure O is aware of that.

Actually didn’t realize Gus had left the year prior. Still, those plays had his fingerprints all over them.

And as for wildcat/spread option... Ehlinger, Plumlee, Mond, E Jones (Trask is a decent runner too) are all such good runners it’s almost the same thing.

Thankfully Gus hasn’t figured out that he needs a true dual threat guy for his offense to excel.

I love how everyone is just assuming that Bo Pelini was frozen in 2007 and was just thawed out to take the DC position. You do realize that he is a defensive specialist who has been a coach for past 26 years, the last 17 as either a DC or Head Coach.

1994-2002 Defensive position coach of the 49ers, Patriots and Packers

2003 - Defensive Coordinator then interim HC for Nebraska

2004 - Defensive Coordinator, Oklahoma

2005-2007 - Defensive Coordinator, LSU

2008 -2014 - Head Coach Nebraska. He went 67-27, winning 9 games or more each season and four Big 12 or Big Ten division titles. In the five seasons since his firing, Nebraska is 28-34, with one winning season.

2015-Present - Head Coach, Youngstown State

Any criticism of Pelini is due to his personality and temper. Not due to his Xs and Os.

I think he'd be great. He's just not a flashy hire because we've had him before.

Not only was the wildcat not the spread, that Arky team had a very talented group assembled. They were no joke.

We also built our defense around our front four and both glen Dorsey and Charles Alexander were hurt. When you face a team that has Darren McFadden Felix Jones and Peyton Hillis and your starting defensive tackles are hurt then you are gonna have issues

Didn't seem to catch Muschamp off guard. Auburn held Arky to 7 pts in '07.

We've got a good thing going now. Some of us remember all too well Bo's last game in TS when our D flat dropped the ball (and at the time seemingly cost us a chance at a Natty).

There are better options out there.
