What if Aranda was the interim head coach back in 2016 when Miles was fired? How different would our football program look right now?

Orgeron is doing just fine right now, the program wouldn’t be in any better position to answer your question.

The same to a tad bit worse. O is a proven recruiter.

I agree that Orgeron is doing a pretty good job and I’m glad that he’s at the healm but I think a lot of us in 2016 would have rathered Aranda as the interim and possible new head coach rather than Coach O

Well, 2016 was Aranda's first year at LSU and he wasn't familiar with the program like he is now. At that particular point they had to choose someone who had head coaching experience and Coach O had that from USC and Ole Miss.

Do you think Arranda would be a good head coach? It’s an honest question. I’m not sure if he would or not to be honest, I’ve heard a lot of people say before they don’t think he would be a great head coach and he’s thrilled staying as a DC for now which he absolutley is the best DC in college football along with Venables. I’m not sure how he would be as the head man though.

He was also a proven loser in September 2016.

Better to take the guy with no track record tha. The guy with the 10-25 track record?

I don't agree with this at all. And I believe most on here (if they were being honest) would say the same.

I do not recall anyone having an issue with Orgeron being named the interim coach. Hell, he had done it before, and was successful at it. I also do not recall anyone clamoring for Aranda to be named the interim.

What I, and many others, had a problem with was handing over the keys permanently to O. Looking at facts, at that present time, O was a horrible decision despite his success as an interim coach. His only proven head coaching experience as the person completely responsible for a program, was a complete and total failure. Then you had a program like LSU, one of the elite in the country, and certainly twice the program of Ole Miss, wanting to hand the keys over to a proven failure. It made no sense.

B/c of that, many started with the notion that anything would be better than O, and many thought of Aranda, like they do the backup QB when the starter is screwing up. To be honest, I would not have wanted to see Aranda get the job either. He had no previous head coaching experience to go off of. Could he turn out to be a great head coach some day? Sure. He seems to have a lot of the qualities to do so. But did I want to test that theory out on LSU and let it become a proving ground for him? Hell no!

But the fact is that as of right now, in hind sight, O appears to be doing a pretty good job. He has made some very questionable decisions that have driven me and many others crazy. But overall, he appears to have things moving in the right direction. And I wish him nothing but continued success, b/c I love LSU and want nothing more than to see us become a consistent championship caliber team again.

This is the correct answer. O has the clout that is currently getting Cali kids to LSU in a down LA cycle. The down voters are obviously biased......why wouldn’t you want to have a top notch recruiter and top notch Dline guru with NFL experience as your head coach..........,AND have Aranda as associate HC an DC......

Which is what we have now.....

Aranda calls his shots. But he wasn’t or isn’t ready to take over a program of LSU status

I wouldn't be that optimistic.
How would he have done at rallying the kids after Miles' departure.
The skill set for being a head coach is much different from that of a coordinator. Can Aranda recruit? Can he manage the day to day? Can he manage an entire staff, media relations, etc?

Aranda has shown no indication that he is ready to be a head coach or has that much interest in it at this point in his career.

We just came off a 10 win, Top 10 finish.

He wouldn’t be half the motivator.. more of a speak quietly with a big stick teddy brosevelt kinda leader? I just don’t think that’s what the team would have needed at the time but at least he’s a derensive coach who would have done well with white and mills etc

For those of you nega O's thinking Aranda was better HC material perhaps you can clue the rest of us into what sort of Offensive mind he has...and Offensive Coaching experience. Curious minds desire to know.

Dunno, but I'm sure he would have found someone to run the offense, and it wouldn't have been worse than its been the last 2 years.
