Garbage time play against a 1AA team is only marginally different than practice reps.

Hell it isn't even as good as practice at a school like LSU. Yes, they get "game time", but our second string defense is better than the starters at some of the dipshite schools that we blow out. I agree with you that its a joke that we think we are going to get a backup QB enough meaningful game experience to make a difference. Plenty of first year starters have won championships in the SEC.

Exactly. What made Matt Flynn better, the garbage time bombs to Bennie Brazell, or 4 years of practice and hard work?

ETA: I think Mett has the prerequisite skills and ability to be successful, but I'm not opposed to change if the new OC deems it best. I just don't agree with the idea of taking away meaningful snaps from the starter (whomever that may be) to prepare the backup for next season.

I would like to see an option type QB like Randall come in every now and then to run the option, read option, draws, etc.. give the defense something else to defend.

But, we have definitely lacked at getting our back-ups "meaningful" snaps in game situations for the last few seasons.

Assuming the backup is not as good as the starter, I don't want them playing any "meaningful" snaps unless forced by injury. Why would you want an inferior player taking snaps from a superior one in a close game? To get ready for the next season? frick that. You play to win the game. Now if you're suggesting handoffs in blowouts against the Towson are "meaningful," then we have a very different definition of what that word means.

I guess you are unaware that Jerrard Randall is no longer on the team.

How much game experience did Matt Cassel have the year he took over for Brady

This is really an excellent example; dude didn't start a game since his senior year in high school!

Bolden may stay who knows. If he does that's 6 qb's on the team

Of course, but we can't assume the backup is not as good starter in all situations and against every team. (I guess?) Mett is no superstar and won't be next year, but he will be the starter. Therefore, if we do have a good number 2 (and we do) make sure he get some meaningful playing time in every game. Mett remains the starter, the leader, but since he's only average at best adjust #2 playing time accordingly. Mett's not worried about being pulled and we convert a few more critical first downs so that we're talking NC game at the end of the season and not the Peach & Chicken bowl.

Technically 7.

We have a 5'10" 165 beast out of Brother Martin. Ronnie Arant.

I'll only laugh if I can get assurances that it isn't serious.

me too. i'm all about giving the opposing defense more to worry about and prepare for, esp if our O mixes it up when the mobile qb is in the game and not just have him run the ball every time he's in.

We have most of offense coming back, including all of our WR's except for Shep. But you want to play a true freshman at QB and not a Senior?

I would like to see them get a little playing time in blowouts, and as the second poster alluded to, do something revolutionary as a LSU QB. Throw the ball as a backup in blowouts.

I also see no reason why we can't compete for a championship this season

Purple&Gold and Wayne, I think you're trying to hurt my feelings and discredit my opinion. Sometimes I just can't understand these issues as profoundly and with such passion, knowledge and sanctified insight as you two creative and original, yet whimsical intellectuals. My apology for interrupting the flow of this thread with my spurious and illegitimate comments. Have a nice day.

I think Mett, with the right coaching...has everything it takes to be an elite QB. His problems are fixable.

But, LSU also needs to look to the future and someone needs decent PT beyond the guy who will not be here next year.
