scholarship limitations left by none other than Dale Brown and Johnny Jones
Left by none other than the NCAA who pressured a kid into lying. Lester Earl apologized and said none of what he said was true.

Regarding Pete's son, I recall people on this site that were apparently 'close to the team' back then saying Maravich stopped going to practice completely and informally quit on the team.
It seemed like Brady's tenure at LSU ended at the right time since it had run it's course. He reminds me a little of my HS coach that had good attributes but also weaknesses that prevented him from reaching his full potential.

The game has changed with the way they are officiating it, I don't think Brady's defensive style would work in today's game.

I really wonder what Brady's legacy might have been if he had not had to struggle with the crippling NCAA sanctions at the beginning of his career.
I think you mean "draconian sanctions"...

The way he treated The Pistol's son was inexcusable
Please elaborate.

I wasn't and have never been close to team, but am very interested in this topic. I'm trying to decide if it's worth asking Josh for his account of his tenure at LSU.
The conversations I've had with him on the topic were all positive, and he never spoke ill of Brady, fwiw.

I suspect Brady will soon be our HC.

If you believe Lester Earl didn't get cars and cash to come to stay in Baton Rouge then you really don't know college athletics. Lester Earl ran his mouth way too much. He apologized for running his mouth. He didn't apologize for the gifts that he received.

The Dale Brown tenure was nearing an end during the Lester Earl recruitment anyway, but Brown was really between a rock and a hard place and was in a no-win situation. He knew Lester Earl was a piece of shite and was really an over-rated basketball player and Brown could have done without him, but if Brown had let the supposed "top recruit in the nation" escape his own backyard and go somewhere else, he never would have lived that down either.

If Brady stayed this hungry after reaching the Final Four he might still be coaching at LSU.
Doubt it. He stepped on to many toes and made too many momma's mad about how hard he worked his teams in practice.

He was a good defensive coach who couldn't coach offense to save his life. And his boring brand of basketball could have been tolerated better if he wasn't such an insufferable jackass. So I refuse to embrace this revisionist view of his LSU tenure.
Good coach who always seemed to have a short roster every season because he ran people off.

I don't want him back as head basketball coach, but the man knows basketball.
I'll take his former assistant head coach Kermit Davis in a heartbeat though.
