I hope USM doesn't have any more LH pitchers.

Amazing how bad LSU is vs LH pitching compared to RH pitching. Even LSU's Right handers don't hit lefties as well. Weird.

Only the 1 last night is burned. Their best one will prob be available for an inning or so again. They also have more.

Stats? I don't think that's right. Last night, sure. Rest of the season I think LSU belted some lefties.

.239 v LHP
.307 v RHP

It's a problem.

They put them up during the game.

Berry SH
Morgan LH (not terrible but worse)
Doughty RH
Jobert LH
Pearson LH

are all terrible vs LH pitching

They have 3 more LHP on their roster, but I don’t know if they are all on the playoff roster.

Dalton Rogers - 33.1 IP, 31 H+BB, 51K, 1.62 ERA, 6 Saves
Chandler Best - 15.2 IP, 23 H+BB, 25K, 5.17 ERA
Drew Boyd - 9 IP, 20 H+BB, 4.00 ERA

Rogers has the best ERA on the team and is their secondary closer. He seems to have nasty stuff, but real control issues (19 BB in 33.1 IP). He wasn’t able to put out the fire in the 9th in the first meeting. The other two don’t have great stats, but neither did Storm.

I'm more worried about us taking advantage of our opportunities rather than hitting a lefty. When we have a team on the ropes we need to take advantage of those opportunities.

I’m not saying it isn’t a “problem”, but how is the rest of the league hitting against lefties? I would imagine there’s a drop off between the two overall. But at what rate and how do we compare?

Boyd and Best both have experience. Boyd has been around a minute, starter last season. Best is still young, highly touted arm from AL, been up and down.

Nobody else in the SEC drops off that much. Several actually hit lefties better. I'll just list the top finishers in the league.

Ark - LH 247, RH 283
Aub - LH 289, RH 293
Fla - LH 285, RH 269
Ole Miss - LH 251, RH 288
Tenn - LH 328, RH 300
A&M - LH 289, RH 295

League overall - 275 LH, 285 RH

Thanks for the info. It seemed like we’ve hit lefties better this year than in previous years, though. If so, that’s a plus.

LSU at.307 is best in SEC against righties (Tenn is 2nd at .300)
LSU at .239 is Worst in SEC against lefties (Arky is 13th at .247)

SEC average is .285 vs Righties and .275 vs Lefties.

It's way out of whack just like the .211 BA with bases loaded which is also last in SEC. Strange stuff.

Scouting report for pitching against LSU is easy. Throw your lefties unless they are terrible.

I'd even throw terrible lefties at them, honestly.

Looks like they need a lot of cage/scrimmage time with LH pitcher batting practice.

It's approach. They need a better approach against LHP. Hit the ball the other way. Morgan had some issues this year against LHP, but his approach is generally why he's fine against LHP.

If our approach is the same as last night, it won't matter.

We swung at more pitches outside the zone than we have in recent memory.

Morgan's approach is only possible because of his freakishly quick hands. You can't just tell Jobert to adopt Morgan's approach, because he would be late on fastballs and would strikeout more.

Gotcha. So, you can't handle the inside half if your approach is to hit middle away. Only Morgan can do that.

I agree its our approach. If we laid off more we would get more walks and they would have to throw it in the zone more. We are too aggressive with 2 strikes.
