I have a real problem with this notion of “best”

teams instead of “most deserving.”
Don’t care if it’s Alabama, Ohio State. . . or even LSU.
Playoff spots should be awarded based on what you have accomplished on the field in a given season - nothing else.
The only “eye test” should be the playoff committee’s eyes on the paper listing your strength of schedule and quality wins. Did you earn your way into the field? Simple as that.
Sports history is littered with really talented teams that didn’t win titles because they didn’t take care of business at some point. It happens. Get over it.

This line of thinking has never applied to Bama!

Wouldn’t the best teams be the most deserving?
I’m confused here

100% agree
"Best" isn't knowable. All we have are the games, and the conference titles should mean something.

There is no such thing as "best" team. There is literally no way to determine the "best" team.
All you can do is determine your Champion.
All you can do is determine your Champion.

When you hear the talking heads say “best team” they are almost always talking about talent level, NFL prospects, who would Vegas favor, etc.

Were the 2007 New York Giants the best team in the NFL?
What about more recently the 2019 Washington Nationals? They didn't even win their division.
College football has this obsession with making sure the "best" team wins the title, which makes the whole process one subjective shitshow.

Based on what they've done on the field, Minnesota. What's the point of playing the regular season and conf championship games if the games don't actually mean anything.

I used to disagree with this because i thought LSU was going to lose to Bama..

Minnesota if we're basing it on on-field accomplishments. Bama if you only go off reputation and other bullshite that shouldn't matter.

I hate it... the "best" team isn't always the team that wins the championship. No team should be given an opportunity to even play for the championship based on being subjectively the "best". If you don't accomplish anything on the field... like even win your division, how would you be considered national champions...
It's bad for college football as a whole. May as well tell the mid-tier schools to pack it in because recruiting rankings and tv ratings decide...

There would be ZERO of these threads right now if LSU would have lost to Bama and been sitting at 4 in the CFP poll, like they would be.
The obsession with Bama on here is non stop.

The "eye test" is.....Bama is full of 5 star players with a history of winning national championships, therefore they must be better than Minnesota, even though they have not proven it on the field.

Follow the money!!!
The CFP will always include Bama.

So what are your thoughts on 2 loss LSU being in the 2007 NC game?
Don't give me the "that's what the computer said" bullshite - the BCS was 2/3 human.
That year, even though LSU lost twice, the voters felt they were a top 2 team - and rightfully so.
Same in 2011, even though Bama lost to LSU and didn't win a conference championship, they were clearly a top 2 team. And they showed that in the NC game.
You guys have got to quit being homers about this and be honest. Just bc you hate Alabama, as I do, doesn't make them a bad team.
No one wants to see LSU vs UCF and Ohio St vs Baylor in the damn playoffs.

2 loss LSU was absolutely deserving that year. It required chaos to get it to happen. But you can't question it.

We also won our division and our conference. Can't say that about Bama.

False. Okie State had a better resume and was wrongfully left out. The results of the rematch are irrelevant. That game shouldn't have happened.

And just because they have Bama on their uniform does not mean that they should get in every year.

Man, I was just thinking the exact thing. "Best" in what way? For example...Two teams of equal talent start the season on the same level (0-0). Team One plays all cupcake teams. Every game is a team who doesn't end up having a winning record. Team One wins every game handily and ends up undefeated (12-0). Team Two plays a much tougher schedule against teams that are all equally talented, maybe even more so, and they go 9-3. By the CFP standards, Team Two is out. Period. Though they aren't necessarily the "best" team, Team One is rewarded for an easy schedule and remaining healthy. And if it happens that Team Two does get in the playoffs, Team One is much more rested and likely more healthy.
