I can’t believe the biggest game of the year is on a Monday

I know the nfl playoffs are going on, but how awful is it that the national championship is on a Monday night?

There has to be an alternative, no? Friday is impossible? Why can’t the NCAA/NFL work something out to give the college championship a better day for the game to be played?

I’m fortunate enough to be able to take off Tuesday so I plan on hydrating myself pretty well before, during, and after the game, but as far as my gameday routine of getting up early, eating my Saturday breakfast, and then cooking a huge meal for my LSU party - well, that shite’s out the window.

Is there anything besides the NFL playoffs that’s forcing this game to be played on a Monday night?

You are not going to compete with the NFL playoffs, you won't win that battle
Monday is next best thing

can you imagine a weekend that included:

Saturday: 12:00 NFL wildcard, 3:30 NFL wildcard, 7:30 NCAA national championship
Sunday: 3:30 NFL wildcard, 7:30 NFL Sunday night football wildcard

They would have to put the NCAA title game in the afternoon Sat slot, that might work like SEC title game

NFL is not giving up their primetime sat slot

Not opposed to Friday night

Took off Monday and Tuesday.
I'm okay burning a couple of vacation days to see LSU play for a title.

That would be awesome. Like the other guy said, you might have to flip the natty and the 2nd NFL game, and I’d be more than ok with settling for that as well

I had that option as well, but not everybody has that luxury.

No matter the circumstance, having this game on a Monday is a drag.. just doesn’t feel the same IMO

Because TV ratings are highest on Sunday and Monday nights, and the NFL has Sunday.

Well then give me this:

Saturday: 3:30 NFL Wildcard, 7:30 NFL Sunday Night on Saturday Wildcard
Sunday: 12:00 NFL Wildcard, 3:30 NFL Wildcard, 7:30 NCAA Championship

In any event, its the best football weekend of the year, and both NCAA and NFL benefits from folks tuning in for 11 and 7 straight hours on consecutive days

common sense. Friday night is the worst tv night. That's why for decades the best shows were on Thursday nights. Thursday night was the big ad night for weekend stuff such as movies, games, going out, etc.

Hell, it even works for the divisional round:

Saturday: 3:30 NFL Divisional, 7:30 NFL Divisional
Sunday: 12:00 NFL Divisional, 3:30 Divisional, 7:30 NCAA Championship

I wasn’t really concerned with tv rating when I asked that question. I was just saying that as a FAN, it makes a whole lot more sense for it to be any day but monday

I understand the whole ‘TV ratings’ pitch, I just don’t agree with it

I think this would be the closest thing we would ever get to a compromise

Better than Monday, that’s for sure

Well as soon as you get elected commissioner of the NFL maybe you could propose that. Alternatively you could buy your own TV, Network, our bid ESPN for the broadcast rights and explain to the commissioners of the P5 conferences and various advertisers why YOU prefer it on Friday

Also cities must bid for the game. Not many cities want to bid and then have everyone leave Saturday. As is new orleans gets a huge crowd for the weekend spending dollars.

I mean. I am flying in Monday and leaving Tuesday. How's that for tourism dollars?

If the complaint is about spending money in the city, this is a small argument for a couple of reasons:
(1) outside of New Orleans, how many cities are getting the constant influx of tourism that a huge event like this brings? Not many.

(2) Hotels a lot of times require a 3 night minimum for these sorts of weekends to capitalize and maximize revenue. The three night minimum would be required regardless of which day of the seven day week the game was played (Sunday-Saturday).
