I believe that the defense can fix what went wrong. Not sure about Brennan.

When Stingley gets back and the secondary settles into their positions, I believe that the defense will be much more sound. Will they be great...that remains to be seen but their is enough talent to be hopeful. What I see from Brennan that is most concerning is the lack of intangibles i.e. poise in the pocket, confidence, football savvy, and especially the quick processing of information necessary to consistently make the right reads. These are things that I do not believe can be taught. You either have them or you don’t. It has nothing to do with intelligence or arm strength. I do think Brennan can improve but I think his ceiling is capped by his deficiencies. He may be our best option this year but I don’t think he is the future if we want to get back to championship form.

TL:DR version : the defense sucked and cost us this game but will get better. Brennan was mediocre is at best an average QB who will always be limited by lack of poise.

Leach was not good matchup for first game. Would have rather played Mizzou or Vandy first

I smell what you are stepping in. To give up 630 passing yards and not be the biggest worry on the team is saying something. Back foot throws, zero pocket awareness, poor leadership and body language, slow release always a second late on his throws. When the lights come on thats when you find out.

Who thinks it gets better against Auburn, Florida, Alabama???? Yikes

It was the kid’s first game as a starter. I get he didn’t play well, but the defense is the real concern. Specifically, the lack of adjustments when our you g corners were getting schooled in man. That’s what lost the game. We scored 34 points, passed for 300+, and had 4 turn overs. We lost because the defense defensive backfield looked like a bunch of pee wee players going against MSU. It was absolutely terrible to watch.

We have 21 players combined from the 17 and 18 recruiting classes on the team, most of whom are new starters, depth players playing in spots, or aren't worth darn on the field.

Will it get better than 600+ yards sure.

But it's NOT getting better. Enjoy it for what it is. Going to be a rough year.

I sorta Expected a rough season.

No Stingley or Logan was not great.

Giving them that many possessions wasn’t great.

Agree! It wasn't the lack of plays or numbers or even the loss....it was tge total lack of poise. Kid played...well....like a scared kid. He's waited for years, learned for years.... after all that prep a debut vs Mississippi state, at home, in front of 25,000 fans and cardboard was too big for him. Kid doesnt have the stones to be "the guy".

The biggest concern is Brennan appears scared out there. Burrow Etling Mettenberger Jefferson even though their skills were vastly different they all played with an attitude even when they wern't that great. I believe you need that cockiness to be a good QB. You have to believe you can make the throws even when you cant. Think Felipe Franks. I dont see that from Brennan.

Im kinda on the opposite side. I think the offense will improve a huge amount. And defense will have to mask some deficiencies on all levels.

2021 will be the year regardless of how well we do this year.

I was under the impression we would have a decent shot though this year but we really lost a lot and the transfers and opt out were a much bigger deal then I originally thought...
Still have all the good games ahead of us and I think we could potentially be in control of our own destiny if we go u defeated until 10/31

I agree the defense will be better and clean up the missed tackles etc.
Hopefully Brennan improves a lot, but the biggest thing that needs to happen is the running game MUST improve. The offense will not work if the coaches act like MB is Burrow and how they didn’t realize this before the season is mind blowing.

I don’t think we have much chance to beat Florida so this ain’t happening. Offense will struggle this year with Brennan at the helm.

Still a chance and it's not as grim as you think. It's college football and it's why we all watch and love it.

The team just has to improve and any thing is possible.

Glad the game has to be played to find out if Florida is really a unbeatable game for us.

Joe Burrow - first game as a starter for LSU, 9-2-2018 vs. Miami; PASSING: 11-24 (45.8%) 140 yrds 0 TD 0 Int.; RUSHING: 4 for 14 yrds

Myles Brennan - 9-26-20 vs. MS State; PASSING 27-46 (58.7%) 345 yrds 3 TD 2 Int; RUSHING 11 for -37

Im going to go out on a limb and say, comparing the 1st start for Burrow in 2018 and yesterday's start for Brennan, not as much separation as it is being made out to be. Burrow got the Win against Miami which says a lot, but it wasnt flashy.

Lets give this kid a chance, when he had time he looked good. We need to adjust our play calling, offense needs to control the time of pos., stay on the field longer (give the defence a breather), check down more, diversify the run game, etc.

This is so true but I saw something very important that I didn't see from Brenna during that game that burrow was for real when on the first series burrow changed the play at the line of schedule like 1 or 2 times.. I have never seen a lsu qb do that... Ever... And not since he left either LMFAO ??

But I do think brennan can learn... He has the tools needs to get in the damn books/film room and improve

I believe exactly the opposite. Yes we have our concerns w Brennan. We can fix him. Potential. Sling it. Throw in time. Stay in the pocket

Defense had problems on many levels. Def line didn’t play well. Linebacker play was average. Secondary was bad

Wrong! Our offense scored 24 points. We had the pick 6 then a fg off of a fumble then we went 3 and out and kicked the Fg.

Google "Burrow holding onto the ball too long" and see what your first result is. Big surprise, it's the rant from Burrow's first year with the vast majority of people agreeing that he was holding onto the ball too long. It happens with even the best of them when they first see significant action.

We all know Burrow was the best ever and Brennan won't be him, but a lot of his passes were accurate. So that's good. But he needs to let loose a lot faster and that happens for a good number of QBs the more they play and get used to game speed. It happened for Burrow eventually. Brennan didn't have stupid penalties and got the plays off in plenty of time for his first start, so at least he didn't have that issue as well. He looked way more comfortable with the fast tempo playcalling. I believe that is what his high school team did. They should try to do it a lot more, but the D is going to need to improve to allow us to do that a lot. Brennan's speed and ability to move outside of the pocket is a concern for me. He needs to learn to loosen up back there for sure.

This is what eventually made Burrow so elite. I've never seen a college QB more prepared and decisive about what he wanted to do before the ball was even snapped once he had about 8-9 starts under his belt (though he flashed the ability even in his first start). Burrow is a really smart guy and he is the ultimate football junkie. He's a rare breed. I think Brennan is dedicated and loves football, but Burrow was on some other level with his competitiveness.
