I'm sure many of you here know my stance on O, and I don't need to repeat it again. However, I think this upcoming football season puts us in a much different spot compared to the last 5-10 years, where I think we will be under the radar more than ever before. ESPN thinks we'll win 6 games total, which would match the 6-2 SEC record last year for wins. The LSU reputation took a hit last year, and rightfully so after the heinous losses to State, Troy, Notre Dame, and beating interim/fired coaches in the SEC.

I think there is a real chance we are going to surprise some people, and this is why: For the first time in a very long time, I do believe the offense will be changed. Albeit, I think much of this is out of necessity rather than desire, but I am very much in favor of the change. We must be able to pass the ball consistently. Les would lie to us for year saying in spring that the QBs improved and they're passing the ball and all that BS (see Wisconsin 2016). The plays were there last year to beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa, but the QB failed to put the ball where it needed to be multiple times on big plays. If those plays are made, we win in Tuscaloosa and outgain them in yards by a bigger margin. Canada was no idiot, but best of luck to him, and sorry it ended the way it did here.

If Brennan is remotely close to the guy we saw footage of in high school, I think our passing attack is going to have potential to be dynamite. I am buying into Giles and one of the best WR recruits in Terrace Marshall. The depth at WR is going to be special this year to go along with a solid OL that played very well at times last year, despite being very young and injured.

The defense was very solid last year. I rarely ever worry about the defense, and the line last year was well coached under Aranda and Jenkins. Teams struggled to run on us all year long. They looked fundamentally sound in technique, which is indicative of good coaching. It is O's specialty, after all.

Win against Miami and beat Auburn in September, and there are some big statement opportunities at home, even if you split against Georgia and Alabama. I am also excited to see this great kicker we are bringing in.

This season will be full of drama no matter what, but I am hoping we will be pleasantly surprised. We are due for some big wins after years of disappointment.

You wrote a thesis to say "I will be happy if LSU wins 7 games this year." Basically sums up Ed O supporters.

Yea, I think we score more touchdowns on defense than offense this year. And if we're getting a stellar PK that'll help.

Lol if you think I'm an O supporter. I'm just saying I do believe we have a chance to have a decent season. Y'all bitch if I post O sucks all the time too, so I don't know what you want to hear. For the record, I do think O sucks, but he has enough talent to still win some games, especially if he changes the offense and will stay out of the way.

Good post.
Won't go over well with the O hating kids on the board, but I agree.

Good point, some on this board believe the benchmark is 10 wins. we are not paying a 10 plus win salary right now. I don't see LSU winning less than 8 games this year.

I think the D will be better and I don’t see Brennan doing less than Etling did throwing the ball production wise. I’m not as optimistic as for as protecting the football though. Etling was very good at that. The running game will almost certainly take a hit though but we should be much improved at making FG’s which is a huge plus if our defense is as good as advertised. We may not need to score 30 a game to win most games. Very tough schedule so imo it’s hard to say a 10 win season is possible but I do think that we field a better team than last season overall.

Defense should be able to hold most teams down in scoring. Offense potentially could be better so I see an improvement from last year. The harder schedule may counter balance the win total.

we are under the radar for no other reason than who our HC is. its damn sure not because of the talent on the roster

no one hates O. we just know he isnt a good head coach and his entire head coaching resume proves it.

You have a reasonable yet optimistic view that most fan boards would applaud. Prepare for incoming from the O hating assholes.

I do not concede that point. The Oline will be much improved and that alone can keep the running game at least where it was. Our passing game will also improve, helping the running game. The OL will be the best it's been in several years. We're also clearly going to be using the rb's a lot more in passing.

it is. a 10 win season allows you to lose 3 games.there isnt 3 teams on our 2018 schedule with a big advantage in talent compared to us.

the last regime was fired for averaging over 10 wins in 11 years.

in 2016 we had the most olinemen make an all sec team, a rimington award finalist, and led the country in yards before contact.

couple of friends of mine at the scrimmage sat and said the offense looked very bad. Def was dominate especially at the goal line. Off line got beat up and man handled. QB's did not look especially good but most the time they were running for their lives. Said 91 is the real deal and a beast. Linebackers are all studs. Hard to judge the CB's because OB's never had much time to get ball down field consistently. O was pissed! Got on offenses asses! However, new offense and they may not play a better defense until they hookup with Bama and Georgia.

This is what Alleva and O have done.

We went from expecting championships and firing a coach for not winning 10 games to just believing we might be decent.

Sad

Why isn’t 10 wins the benchmark. We fired Miles because he did not adapt enough to get 10 wins yearly

We fired a guy who could not hit that benchmark and hired a guy who isn’t expected to hit that same benchmark? That’s LSU admin in a nutshell.

this is common O sycophant behavior.

you have no actual facts to stand on so you just tell people how they feel and then attack them for that made up feeling. people may hate that o isn't a good coach.

even if they did hate O, you cant not like the coach and want lsu to win.
