Hypothetically we get Aranda
(Yes another coaching thread) Open the coaching changes board up.

Nonetheless, say we do go get Aranda.
He is organized, discipline, defensive minded and familiar with our program/state.

He brings in Tom Herman as OC (roommates at Cal Lutheran & is Chicago Bears Offensive Analyst)
Ron Roberts as DC (Current Baylor DC & former UL DC).

Would that satisfy a lot of you worried about how Aranda would fair?
When Herman can just rely on recruiting and calling plays he can be a great coach. Success as an OC at Ohio State on the big stage. Emphasis on shotgun power football.
Roberts is experienced, has Baylor playing great defense this year and his track record at UL speaks for itself. He also has great connections in Louisiana recruiting grounds from his time at SLU and Lafayette.

As long as Aranda doesn’t bring along Grimes as OC, I think it would do wonders for our program.

re: Hypothetically we get Aranda
Their offense hasn’t been that great this season and Grimes didn’t exactly have the best exit here.

But he did coach some good football at BYU and has an offensive line/running background which I like.

Grimes would be such a better choice than Herman. Herman doesn't have a great passing scheme, he meddled in his UT offenses and they pretty frequently underachieved.

Imagine Grimes with Nuss and Walker after what he did with Zach Wilson last year.

Bohannon is pretty raw. I think hes getting about the best out that offense that he can, but yeah they looked rough in Stillwater.

His offense is definitely more power run based, but I think that was also due to his personnel with Sam Ehlinger at QB. But still… shoot that 2018 offense they had at Texas was a really great one to watch as a fan.

I will be honest I haven't watched a lot of Baylor this year but just looking at it from a points perspective they seem pretty legit. What about it makes you say it hasnt been a great season for their offense

But this has been the case everywhere he's been. It was run based at OSU and Houston too. He ran Ehlinger way too much imo. Certainly he worked as a running quarterback, but not nearly to the degree that he was used.

Agreed about 2018. When his offense works it's great to watch, but it's too inconsistent for me, especially with our ol problems.

There’s just no way I could ever be upset about hiring Aranda. Love that guy and he might even have the potential to be the next Saban. I know that is far-fetched to say right now but I won’t be shocked either.

The Okie State game was just a bad show all around for the offense, penalties, bad run game and poor play calling plagued them. Very tough team to play as well but the offense played bad. Against Texas State I was surprised how they only scored 29 on that squad, watching that in person.
They just seem off right now, not bad per say overall but not clicking on all cylinders.

That’s very fair. Just wonder if Grimes is the answer if he were to be brought in or if they would go with another hire for OC.

It will not be Aranda, Riley, or Kiffin.

This hire will have a resume with high end success at the highest level.

All 3 are good, but not good enough.

By that metric, you wouldn’t have hired Saban.

You want the hungry up and comer to right the ship.

Not the guy who has already proven himself to himself.

just because he did that at Washington and Texas A&M does that mean he can do that at LSU… Timing is everything.

re: Hypothetically we get Aranda

Aranda would need to come in with some sort of solid proof that Herman and Roberts agreed to join his staff for me to be comfortable with it, otherwise you're looking at another Orgeron/Kiffin situation.

Aranda isn't proven enough by himself to get the reins, he'd need a solid commitment from good coordinators to keep a lot of people (Woodward probably included) from second guessing
