So much LSU should rehire Paul if LSU goes to Omaha

Depends on what Jay Johnson does the rest of his tenure. If he continues to win national championships it’s 100 percent him and it proves how terrible CPM was if he never wins again it’s going to be he is terrible and he only won with CPM’s players.

What if he wins 2-3 years from now then loses in the final a few years after that?

There is nothing that can occur in the world to show how "terrible" Paul Mainieri was when he accomplished (from Wikipedia):

Championships
NCAA (2009)
4 SEC (2009, 2012, 2015, 2017)
6 SEC Tournament (2008–2010, 2013, 2014, 2017)
4 Big East (1999, 2001, 2002, 2006)
5 Big East Tournament (2002–2006)
Awards
NCBWA National Coach of the Year (2015)
Skip Bertman Award (2015)
Baseball America Coach of the Year (2009)
Collegiate Baseball Coach of the Year (2009)
2× SEC Coach of the Year (2009, 2015)
Big East Coach of the Year (2001)

And even more credit for stepping away when he did (whether forced or not).

No credit for this. He was fired. He got paid through 2024.

So PM should still be coaching in your eyes then?

He didn't say that, nor did he imply that.

It's like him telling you, "So you're saying PM should be taken out back and shot?"

Credit for loading the roster with talent?
For keeping the program seaworthy even if unspectacular lately?
For steeping down at the right time?

He would get credit for all these things, and johnson would obviously get more credit. And as the years go on, what johnson accomplishes in the years after will determine how much or how little credit PM gets

Maineri should have had a minimum of 3 titles with all the arm talent he's wasted.

Should be interesting to see how the replies to this thread jive with the "Les won with Saban's players" crowd

Exactly who I thought this thread was trying to troll

My answer is maybe 5%.

Such a hard thing to quantify, really. CPM gets credit for his recruits. One year out you may give him some credit for development on upper classmen.

On the other hand, baseball, in my opinion, is influenced by in game head coaching decisions more than football and on par with basketball. So the influence of the former coach is probably less significant here than in football.

Or maybe I'm overthinking it
