Ehhhh Cat welcome to the fun. Hand up on the surgery remark. That was my bad. Don’t know our guys in between surgery status and misread a quoted post.
However, not once have I said I wouldn’t love it if Hal does succeed. I’ll be the first to come back here and eat crow. My alternative is anyone else. Literally anyone. Hopefully move Doughty over to short or the Arnold kid. Now in reference to your questioning of my knowledge.
I’ve watched the Tigers, and have seen the majority of Hal’s ABs. He has a horrible approach at the plate that is not conducive to any type of future success. He leans over the plate and reaches on every outside pitch, which results in turning over all outside pitches. He never sits back and drives a ball. I’d love to see a stat of how often he grounds out to the left side of the infield. I’d be willing to bet it’s over 50% of his at bats.
Second, he gives up on almost every inside pitch he sees. Raises his arms and juts his arse out every time a pitch comes over the inner half of the plate making himself almost incapable of handling an inside pitch. Also has 0 power capabilities.
Third his fielding is WAY overrated. IMO worst fielding shortstop we’ve had since before lemahieu but hey I know everyone here thinks that just bc he sucks at hitting then that makes him a fantastic fielder. Also he’s slow.
Think that makes him a 1 tool player if ya give him credit for glove, which is a stretch.
He won’t be starting in two months so enjoy the shitty play while y’all can. I for one cannot wait for it to stop. Seen enough baseball and play out of him to know he’s not Kramer or one of these improving players

Trust me it is not “absurd” to say that our starting shortstop will affect our chances of winning games and potentially the more important ones. He absolutely hurts this team. Call me when your finished with clown school.

-Weak ground ball
-First pitch flyout
-walk (his greatest asset is not swinging)
-flyout to right
Everything is so weakly hit
-error in field
Let's not act like he didn't suck.
I guess all that work driving the ball up the middle didn't work

It’s been said by the coach that Doughty isn’t ready to play there. If Doughty was ready to play short defensively then he would be starting there. You act as if the coaches haven’t given anyone else a chance. And yeah Arnold isn’t an option so it’s not just “literally anyone”.
I’ve already read your analysis of his approach at the plate. No one here has argued that he’s had a good approach or a great player and yet you keep talking as if people are. Then you resort calling people libs if they call you out for bashing a player.
You’ve seen enough out of him to know he’s not somebody who can improve, and yet the coaches have said that he has improved. I guess you don’t really have a clue.
Nobody is excited about him starting or wants him to play over someone else who is better. NEWS FLASH, neither do the coaches. I’m not sure where you are getting that idea from. You know we rarely get the best middle infielders that we recruit. Sometimes you’re stuck with what you have. We are lucky that Bregman made it to campus. How about you just hope for the best from Hughes for the next “two months” instead of trying to make things miserable for people who would rather enjoy baseball season?

error in field
On a ball he was moving to his left on while the ball spun back towards him. It wasn’t the most routine play, but an error none the less

So the first game of the season told you that all of the work put in on driving the ball up the middle hasn’t worked?

If you down vote the above post pleeeaaassse provide your reasoning for continuing support.
I downvoted you because you’re an a-hole. My reason for supporting Hughs is captured very well be Deaux a couple of posts above yours that I’m responding too.

Instead I’ll trash Minaeri for continuing to subject this no talent loser to such humiliation.
Mainieri recruited a defensive shortstop to backup the most important position on the field. Injuries to the putative starting shortstop, two years in a row, have justified Mainieri’s wisdom. Thank God we have had Hughs on the roster.

Since when is it such a problem to call out poor performance of players. Sounds kinda liberal to me.
Liberal? You’re just a nasty idiot. That’s apolitical.

Wow, two examples, in this little quoted snippet, that show how stupid you are.

Why do people always bring politics into a discussion that’s nowhere remotely about politics. That’s how you know they are loosing their argument. They insult you in a completely unrelated way. And to be clear, I’m definitely NOT a liberal.
