How’s the run defense looking this year?

We beat Georgia pretty good, but Kirby went away from the run pretty early and got cute. We would’ve lost if they stuck to the run. I know our dline is better stacked up front

And?

"What ifs" are useless. In real life and in college football.

It was a great game no doubt, but holyfield was gashing us, then they stopped giving him the ball. That might not have beat us, but it would been a tight game.

You are wrong. After they had that series of runs we made a couple adjustments to play the run that kirby then tried to take advantage of by throwing and fromm couldn't make the throws needed against our secondary.

This is the correct answer... adjustments

So far, so good. We have given up exactly "0" yards in conference play. I would say that is pretty strong for the SEC. The defense certainly hasn't contributed to a loss yet, so that is a big positive. Hopefully this trend will continue for the rest of the season.

This

The early success UGA had with the run forced LSU to change their defensive scheme which lead to success in stopping the run. UGA countered by going to the air which, as we now know, was unsuccessful.

Go back and watch the game again but this time on mute so you don't hear the idiot announcer say the same damn thing about UGA abandoning the run.

Look at the game recap. They gashed us on the drive they tried the fake field goal... Their next drive they went 3 and out with 3 passes, I think that's why this narrative exists. But look after that

1st down: Swift for 3 yards
2nd down: Swift for 3 yards
3rd down: incomplete pass

Next drive
1st down: Holyfield for 5 yards
2nd down: Herrien for -1 yards
3rd down: incomplete pass

Next drive was 2 min left in the half, so they threw the ball every play. Go into half down 16.

Neither of you are right. We went 4 for 4 on fourth down gambles, stopped their fake field goal, and went 5 for 5 on field goals. It was a perfect storm for LSU, however if we fail on 2 fourth downs and miss one FG we still likely win a close one. Anyway, we didn’t fail, and that’s part of the game.

Kirby DID get too cute in that game. In order to lose, I think Kirby would have had to not take stupid pills and LSU would have had to have had more normal luck on fourth down and field goals. That’s a lot of “ifs”.

Georgia abandoned the run because LSU started stuffing the run....so they countered by trying their luck with the pass....

This is the same lame argument Bama fans try to make for their loss to Clemson....

Bama should have stuck with the run....

They did stick with the run and got stuffed 4 times in a row on the goal line....remember that....

The run game was working only when the field was long.....but once in the red zone, Clemson didn’t have to worry about 60 yard go routes....Bama became one dimensional near the goal line...

They didnt just go away from the run just because, we started shutting it down after making adjustments. They had early success, we adjusted, then they werent getting huge chunks on the ground. Good article about that once posted here.

Starting with UGA's 4th drive of the game...all of UGA's runs, not including sacks:

- Swift rush for 3 yards
- Swift rush for 3 yards
- Holyfield rush for 5 yards
- Herrien rush for loss of 1 yard
- Fromm rush for loss of 2 yards
- Fromm rush for 2 yards
- Swift rush for 14 yards
- Swift rush for 2 yards
- Swift rush for 1 yard
- Fields rush for 3 yards
- Swift rush for 4 yards
- Holyfield rush for 13 yards
- Holyfield rush for 10 yards
- Hardman rush for no gain
- Herrien rush for 4 yards
- Swift rush for 4 yards

Only 4 of these 16 runs went for over 4 yards, 9 of the 16 went for 3 yards or less, which is a win for defense generally speaking. Not a single long run in there (20+ yards).

Their 2nd drive of the game they had a handful of very good runs, and people kind of remember that, but it wasn't the story of the game beyond that.

Yet every time this game is discussed Georgia fans, and some of our dumber LSU fans, try to make it seem like they were running all over us

LSU would not have lost if UGA had stuck with the run... that is the excuse in Athens. They never did stop our offense. Anyway just profoundly disagree

They did stop the offense or maybe it was just the 20 yard line that stopped the offense. What they couldn't stop was the ability of the offense to get to the 20 and the field goal kicker.
