How were our receivers so open?

Not taking anything away from Daniels, but seemed like the amount of separation our receivers were getting was insane. JD never really had to pass through any difficult windows (minus the 3rd down to Boutte in the 1st quarter), he mostly was decisive and threw to open men and threw some 1-on-1 balls which is all we really need (think Thomas in the endzone and free play to Jenkins).

But I wonder if something with the play calling / scheme changed offensively. I think this was a bit more than just "Daniels decided to finally trust his receivers." He said he would trust them last week too. So wondering what actually changed outside of Daniels making slightly better decisions. Thoughts?

They’ve been open.

He had more time to throw and actually threw it.

Go watch again

There were multiple 50/50 balls and he gunned a couple into tight windows (did that last week too)

As far as why they were so open...
There's a receiver or two open on about every play. He just hung in and went through progressions this week instead of locking in on his first read and taking off if it wasn't open.

He threw the ball before the receiver started his break a few times too.

Just give him credit and move on

I would respectfully disagree. No, JD didn’t have to throw into crazy tight windows, nor did he have to throw covered receivers open per se, but he wasn’t throwing to wide open guys running free either. I saw good timing and accuracy combined with WRs making plays in the face of decent-to-good coverage.

They've been open. Daniels just took more risks.

Jaray was well covered on the bomb for a TD. Daniels put it up, and Jaray muscled the defender out of the way. Thomas was well covered on his TD.

We have one of the most talented WR Corps in America. They've been getting a ton of separation since the jump, just haven't been getting the ball to them because JD was too quick to run, didn't keep his eyes downfield while scrambling or didn't go through his progressions, etc. JD has had a half a season to develop chemistry with the WR's also, Ole Miss has a good pass defense, but I really like how we match up with them across the board.

They’ve been there all year. This is the first game when he threw them open or anticipated the cut by the wr.

We have. A chance to be really good from here out if Daniel’s can continue to develop.

Better line play certainly helped. And Daniels trusting himself and the receivers majorly helped.

I don’t know why people like shitting on Raymond so much. I thought he gave a lot to lsu. Like everything things ran it’s course but he had a solid 17 years as a player and coach for lsu. I wish him the best except against lsu and hopefully he goes to a better school.

They weren’t open vs Tennessee for the most part. WR coach must’ve worked on routes and gaining separation.

Will Campbell.

Say it again, Will Campbell.

Along with the rest of the line. Daniels improved as well.

But the line protected him as well as they have all year.
