How was the wiretap even legal?

I’ve been trying to research this, and everything I read seems to indicate that at least one party to a call has to consent to being recorded.

Even under the unconstitutional patriot act, it sounds like the gvt needs suspicion of something heinous like terrorism to wiretap citizens.

So unless Dawkins was willingly “wearing a wire,” how was any of this legal to begin with?

Any of you downvoters care to shed light on the OP’s question?

If anyone has any real insight I am also curious about the constitutionality of this situation

Have you ever heard of a search warrant?

Don’t copies of search warrants have to be provided to someone in position of authority on premises?

Asking because I don’t know

With a warrant. Wiretapping is allowed if the police get a warrant from a judge, to which they have to provide evidence that a crime is probably being committed. It is, for all intents, a search warrant and what you obtain via the wiretap may be limited depending on the specifics of the warrant. It is done all the time.

Like others has said much of what was in the wiretap wasn’t allowed in court. I think this is being put in the public for that exact reason. Taint the jury pool and see if they can force Wade to say something that would make it permissible in court. That’s why he’s got to sit quiet.

Because the FBI doesn’t do some shady shite huh?

And fit the OP... do you even know what this investigation is about?? It’s not about Wade it’s about Dawkins so no Dawkins wouldn’t wear a wire to incriminate himself in an investigation against him

This is how the surveillance of Trump campaign happened. It’s a link analysis surveillance.

The FBI is not after Wade. The FBI did not investigate Wade. The FBI did not even subpoena Wade as a witness. The FBI is not focused on Wade. The FBI couldn't give a rat's behind about Will Wade.

You need to follow the case a little more closely. They weren’t intentionally wire tapping Will Wade

That’s my point. Neither one of them consented and this wasn’t an issue of national security...
