I know that he sold it to pay back some debt. And kinda like the idea of it being where the public can see it, but I think other than being with the family the rightful place would be in the football trophy room. I think Cannon himself would like that more. It would serve a bigger purpose to the program there. Kids would see it on recruiting visits, etc.... so how much would Woodward have to write a check for to get it there?

The team gets an official replica from the Heisman folks. So, LSU has a Cannon Heisman in its trophy room.

You sound like you need a trip to the trophy room.

They didn't start issuing the replica Heisman's to teams until Spurrier started it the year he won it.
LSU may have gotten a duplicate made to display at LSU at some point, not sure.
The statue outside the stadium outweighs the trophy anyway.

If you’ve never taken a trip to the ops center, you should. The trophy room is pretty awesome.

Didn’t realize that. Thought they only gave one out back in the day.

They didn't start this tradition until the 60s when Spurrier gave his to Florida.

Maybe they do but I’m not 100% sure. They started giving 2 trophies when Spurrier won it and that was years later.

On the wall you can clearly see a Heisman trophy. The day before Burrow was awarded his and a month before they got the copy of Burrow's

1966 is when Spurrier gave his to UF and since then, they have been giving two out. Doesn't mean they couldn't do it retroactively.

Wish these threads would stop

Moran tried to give the trophy back to the cannon family but they said no because They felt Billy wanted Moran to have it so it could be seen. If TJ’s goes out of business, I am sure LSU will get it. All that is in the case at TJ’s with the trophy.

The trophies are no longer in this atrium, as they built a dedicated trophy room during the renovation of football ops, but you can clearly see the Heisman in the foreground. When the trophies were here, Joe did not have a Heisman, so that's definitely Cannon's Heisman. Also, that's clearly Billy Cannon's picture behind it and it would be really weird for them to put his picture behind someone else's Heisman.

It should be noted that this is the school's copy of the trophy and it might be different from the one given to Billy (I honestly don't know). At the time, the school didn't get a copy, but at some point after Billy won, the Athletic Club started making a replica for the school and allowed schools of past winners to get a replica of the older trophies made. Billy's trophy is the only one made of silver (unless LSU's replica is also silver) because it was the 25th Heisman. I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding a good picture of it for it being in such a public location.

ETA: There we go. This is what Billy's Heisman looks like.

And this is what all the other Heismans look like.
