Honestly, how many years are we away?
The teams in championship games today have Defenses predicated on their lines stopping the run, and putting pressure on the QB w/their front 4.

Thoughts?

Keep O and these recruits and we will see improvement as early as next season I'd imagine.

Likely 2 to 3 assuming O stays.

You have to think this year's class would be studly. That means in 3 years when they're juniors and O has two more classes behind them, LSU will have that monster D line with depth.

Note:in 3 years the defensive line will be sick good but it will be a top end D line in about 2.

Hopefully soon....

Bower missed 3 games.

Clark missed 8 games

LaCouture missed 1.

Patterson missed 10, not sure on injuries or anything with him though. Played against state, then never again.

Teuhema missed 4 games

QT missed 8 games.

Washington missed 6 games.

Godchaux, Neal, Herron, Gilmore, Key are only ones to play in every game. That's just not going to cut it in the sec. Only one guy that was a DT in hs. Most figured Godchaux would grow into one, but only 1 guy that played primarily as a DT in hs.

To make matters worse, Neal, Herron and Gilmore rarely saw the field before this year. Key is a true frosh.

At least two even if there is a big recruiting haul in DT's and ILB's this year. Which I seriously doubt since the higher ups lame ducked the program and the D Line coach is just looking for his next HC job no matter where it is.

Chavis was not recruiting hard and our dl is no where near what it was 4 years ago.

This is our least overall talent on dl since the late 90s and it is young also.

Going into the season, I was worried teams would see that weakness and run more on us.

When we get recruits who can dominate. Alabama and others are getting them now. The defensive tackle position is the most overlooked position in football but is probably one of the most important. Having the DTs push the OL into the backfield disrupts every team every time.
Dominating DTs are just behind the need for a good QB in my book

When we play the upper crust of the SEC they look like a JV squad.

It was fairly strong this year and will likely be dominant next year, although we might be playing 210lb linebackers behind them.

The trouble comes the year after next. All of the DTs on that team, which takes the field in 21 months, are in high school right now.

We won't be competetive in the SEC with second year DTs, not unless we get extremely lucky.

Biggest problem for LSU's defense is LSU's offense. We are so inept at offense that the D is on the field way too much.
