How long before CFB rules change

and allows players to be drafted straight out of HS? Or maybe allow them to get drafted but not eligible for play until their second year? CFB isn't anything more than a NFL farm system.

They should do it like baseball, but make it 3 years and no early birthday rule.
Not many kids would go pro out of high school. The NFL isn't going to make that gamble very often. It really wouldn't be that big of a deal for college football I don't think.
See how many super star high school players flame out in college?

It’s not a CFB rule.

It’s not college football rules, it’s the NFL
Players are free to go play wherever they want for the 3 years, they don’t have to play NCAA. It just clearly offers more than the minor league football market (Canada or Arena) or they would be choosing that route making 50k year
So when people complain about players not being paid just remember those players value the scholarship and fan fare more than the money their services are actually worth without the school affiliation

College football doesn't control that.

Football is much different from the other sports in the realm of going pro straight out of high school. High School bodies are not developed at that point to take the pounding of an NFL game, and the speed of the game from high school to the pros is astronomically faster. The football knowledge is not usually there either at that point. It would really never work.

I agree, not en masse at least and that’s why the NFL has the rule. But there are players that could make a paycheck in other non NFL leagues out of high school that instead choose the NCAA.

it’s an NFL rule, dummy.

It’s actually the NFLPA that is preventing it.

There are only a handful of kids physically ready for the NFL grind out of high school and fewer mentally. It will not happen. Only major option is for the NFL to set up their own farm league and pay kids that way bypassing the colleges

Yeah, I think going the baseball route would be good for football. Not as many HS football players would be ready straight out of high school but would give the freak athletes that opportunity. If they decide to go to college, then it still requires them to attend for a few years.

they would still opt out of year 3 in this scenario.
ETA: If this had been the case Chase probably still doesn't project high enough to go pro straight out of high school so he comes here plays for 2 years and then still opts out. Marshall, however, may have projected high enough to go pro straight out of HS and we miss out on 3 years with him.

I have no problem with the examples of what may have happened with Chase or Marshall that you provided.
The unusual circumstances made the Chase decision much more logical from his perspective.

What other leagues? Every other league that has paid more than just a little bit of money has gone under. There should be no restriction so the 1% of guys that could go to the NFL after their Freshman year can do it if they want.

Kids out of HS would get killed in the NFL.

But, but, they are so exploited, don't you know?????
THAT is one of the biggest lies out of many being told. They live AND are treated like KINGS compared to the regular student. And yes, when they no longer produce for their school, they're no longer valuable. Ya know, kinda like the real world!!!

I dont See why the NFL can’t do a waiver system for players after their first and second years
You apply to see if the NFL will take you. If the NFL rates you high enough you can come out early.
For guys like Chase and LF7.
NFL get players they think are ready and it keeps every player from thinking they’ll live off 4th round money.

My you don’t get to play the “real world”
angle while Ignoring that the player make waaaaay more money for the school than they are compensated.

Sorry, but there isn’t one kid coming out of high school ready for the NFL in the last 20 years and there won’t be in the next 20. I don’t care about Adrian Peterson or Jadeveon Clowney or Leonard Fournette. Every one of those guys, which are few and far between, in addition to everyone else, needs that full year in the system to fully develop to anything even close to an NFL player.
