Minor's top 3 schools came down to LSU, ND, and FSU. He went FSU to follow in Dunn's footsteps and also play for a national title. The reason he wore 28 at CHS was b/c that was Dunn's number at FSU.
For that 1996 CHS team, they lost 14-7 to West Monroe. Their only score was Minor running the opening kickoff back. He was awesome to watch in high school and I believe when he left FSU he was 3rd all time in rushing yards there. But that CHS team ended up being a ridiculous waste of talent. Besides the 3 players mentioned, they also had a WR go to Air Force and at least 2 other players play D1 college ball. Their TE was a junior who went to LSU (and fizzled out). Minor's backup was Kendrick Shanklin who went on to Kentucky when Mumme was coach (they beat us 31-5 in Tiger stadium. Miserable game. Shank ran back a punt for a TD).
Franklin's career went south when Curley put him at DB.

Also, during that time, the New Orleans Times Picayune was very anti-LSU. With no Internet available yet, the only source for LSU updates for New Orleans recruits was from that LSU-bashing publication.

Easy FSU was the 2nd best team in the country when Dunn left plus Bowden really invested in Warwick when his mom was killed. When Minor left FSU was the best.

How did LSU miss out on Warrick Dunn and Travis Minor?
It has been stated on the thread how the LSU brand was not as attractive as LSU is now. We had a coaching carousel going after Charlie Mack retired from 1980 Bo Rein who died in a plane crash and never coached, Jerry Stovall 3 years 22-21, Bill Arnsparger 26-8 left LSU to turn Florida program around, Mike Archer 27-18, Curley Hallman 16-28 the decline years and blame Brett Farve for this as he made Curley look great, Gerry Dinardo 33-24, Hal Hunter, 1-0 and then we hire Nick Saban 48-16
Finaly we get to LES MILES 103-29
As you see we were not stable and a lot of very good recruits left the state for Florida, Texas, California, Nebraska and others. It was not the golden years for LSU Tiger fans and now you know why many on this board get furious over the Miles haters who have never been through a real decline or did and just forgot
