Wow. Was this expected? Didn't he just sign a huge contract with a ton of guaranteed money a couple years ago?

Their GM went on record saying they were in the "evaulation" process of whether or not to pick up his option. Writing was on the wall.

He would be a perfect fit in NOLA. Local guy, merchandise sales and marketing bonanza, add a def/special teams playmaker. One thing I miss about the SB era Saints was the turnovers and big defensive plays that swung games. He'd be a really nice piece to the puzzle if they could pull it off.

what ex-LSU player isn't according to Saints fans?

I could find a thread on any LSU player that's a FA or entering the draft and some Saints fan will say that they would be a perfect fit on the Saints. Like clockwork.

But to your post, Mathieu doesn't need to play for a team anywhere near New Orleans for his own sake.

Saints wouldn't be a good fit. He couldn't keep his shite together at LSU because he was to close to home. PP7/PP21 not in Nola to hold him accountable. He is Top 10 GOAT LSU in my book but dude will end up in ATL to haunt us for the next 5 years!

I find it to be the opposite from what you are claiming. It’s usually LSU fans running to saints talk saying the Saints should jump on every player that is a FA
