Honestly, what would be the reason to extend O?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this and can't figure out a way to.
I'd even be willing to concede that this team out preformed what was expected this season and could easily be #6 or #7 had they not got hosed by the refs in the A&M game.

But why? Why extend? I feel like the main reason to do that would be if other schools or possibly NFL teams were after your HC... O is not in any of these discussions. I just don't get it. Recruiting has been good but we have had some key misses and currently the cupboards are going empty at D Line, which is supposed to be his specialty. Also he has failed to find us an elite OC like he promised. Which is obviously something that is holding us back right now.

I just don't understand.

agents have convinced to AD's that they need the buyouts for recruiting purposes. it's a fantastic scam.

The narrative is recruiting. I disagree, but ol buyout Joe can’t give away money fast enough for mediocre results.

You promote within to be cheap, so why not make the most of it.. Surely you can afford to let the contract actually play itself out.. even to the end.

He's not going any where. Shouldn't this be the benefit of actually going cheap. Not having to make some ridiculous early extension that could ultimately backfire.

Doesn't Aranda have some sort of assistant HC deal that he could easily become the HC if he wanted? I wonder if that plays into it at all..

The thing is.. his contract is not tied to Aranda.. so even that should not be a reason.

quote:

His contract is guaranteed for three years and is not tied to the contract of LSU head coach Ed Orgeron. On January 5, 2018, it was announced that Aranda received a new four-year contract that will pay him $2.5 million annually and the entire $10 million deal is guaranteed.

There is no reason to extend O.. even next season.. you'd still have two more seasons on his contract left. Next season should really tell you a lot about what you need to know.. Many say it's a favorable schedule and a much better LSU team.. so if he goes another 3 loss season.. I don't see any reason to extend him.

other coaches will use that he doesn't have a contract extension when recruiting against us...is it really that hard to comprehend?

It's all about keeping up perception. When you're trying to recruit a guy that will be at your University for 3-4 years, and your HC is only locked up for 2 more seasons that can be a bad look.

As long as they don't handcuff themselves to him, I couldn't careless what kind of extension they give him. Give him a decade for all I care, but I am 100% against giving him anything of substance that would make the contract even the least bit difficult to get out of.

Exactly what I was thinking. Thank's for the tidbit on the Aranda contract.

It doesn't matter if you believe it or not, it's the absolute truth. Negative recruiting is very real.

The recruits are not so much attached to O IMO as they are about an established/winning LSU program. Especially defensive recruits.

I honestly feel like LSU recruiting would actually improve with excitement over a new coach.. more than any perceived negative recruiting. It's silly to keep a coach around simply for recruiting when the recruiting isn't even as highly ranked as usual. Winning breads recruiting..

I just desperately want LSU to be a top 30 offense again.

If you look at all the top teams this season, almost all of them are top 4 or 5 in offensive stats. I think ND may be the only exception and they are still like 15-20's? IDK, I'm not even going to look it up.. Regardless, LSU was another 100th ranked offense if not for the 7 OT game.

I am not saying coaches dont use that, I am saying it does not have a material effect and it shouldnt be a reason you extend someone.

If you are concerned so much about negative recruiting, dont you think "10-25 was his record in his other head coaching job" would make you weary for negative recruiting?

Recruiting is the only reason. But contracts mean nothing so who cares. Buyouts are all that matter.

Recruiting. Contract needs to be 4 - 5 years at least. With low buyout, no harm to school especially at his salary compared to our previous coaches’ and others now

Aure

But I dont Think “they didn’t extend him and he only has 3 seasons left”

Is as good a negative recruiting pitch as “he has never won anything, their offense is a train wreck, and They have to pay their DC 2.5 million so the whole things doesn’t fall apart”

Yet we persevere

Also isn’t recruiting O’s number 1 skill? He can’t fricking outrecruit “he didn’t get an extension of year 2 of a 5 year contract?”

Why did we fricking give him a 5 year contract? If we HAVE to renew it year 2 or suffer the consequences?

Also do you think that negative recruiting will work next year if O is having a year that deserves an extension? Like if we’re 9-1 you think we’re gonna miss out on recruits because they are worried we won’t give O an extension?

Extending Orgeron'e contract has several benefits.
1. It will stir up the low T sky screamers around here.
2. The tsunami of repeat threads will drive the click count to astronomical levels, making Chicken a world class billionaire over night.
3. A huuuuge source of amusement for those of us with functioning brains.
