What am I missing? Is there a connection? It wouldn’t be for $? It’s a lateral move at best. OU has a more prestigious history than LSU. Only advantage I see at LSU is more fertile recruiting in your home state.

He won't leave OK. Just like the baseball search, the big names are being thrown out then LSU ends up with another Jay Johnson in football. Good but not great or the best.
But at this point, anybody is better than Ogre. Anybody.

With Oklahoma coming into the SEC a move by Lincoln to another SEC team seems rather unlikely.

If he will now compete in the SEC yearly, he would have better talent at LSU

LSU is in a better talent pool.

OU has to raid Texas and defensive players didn’t grow up watching OU play defense. So maybe we angle that he could finally get the players in defense to win a championship.

Otherwise we would just have to unload the brinks truck.

Most of his recruits come from texas, with texas and texas A&M in the sec he is going to be in recruiting battles with two other major SEC schools along with Ohio state who has been doing well recruiting in Texas. He can recruit Louisiana with barely any competition.

If he sees that there will be a drop off in talent at OU, that would be my only guess as to why he could leave

You're not missing anything. I am shocked by how many people are beating this drum. It seems they're living in 2019 saying because we destroyed OU that there's some type of stockholm syndrome in Lincoln wanting to taste that kind of talent in Louisiana, but that is a pipe dream. And honestly, why do we need to cannibalize a conference coach whether it's Lincoln, Lane, Jimbo etc. Bad ju ju and no thank you.

Good points. He’d be a slam dunk home run hire. I don’t think it happens but he is the absolute best that LSU could do in this search. Only thing he doesn’t have is a natty. Other than that he’s the perfect hire.

Who's interviewing Lincoln Riley? Some names that people grasp out of thin air are comical.

The recruiting in Louisiana alone would be one great reason

Well, maybe after that arse whipping he took in 19, he realizes he has more components in place at LSU to win a championship than at OU. I mean, after all, he watched the last 2 buffoons at LSU win championships, so he figures he could come here and do it too.

I mean, he’s been close multiple times and got thrashed every time trying to get to the championship game with OU.

It isn't really a lateral move.

OU was relevant in the 70s.... They haven't won a title since 2000... LSU has won 3 since that time with 3 different coaches. Two of them with Obvious issues...

LSU has a more fertile recruiting ground as they are the major university in a very rich talent state. Oklahoma has to go into Texas.

Riley already knows how to recruit Texas. If he could put a wall up in Louisiana he could get some amazing offensive talent

Its not a lateral move. It just looks like a lateral move

Jay Johnson might end up winning multiple Nattys at LSU. We don't know that's not a great hire.

Maybe he wasn't Woody's first choice but i don’t think that's unusual to get down to your 2nd/3rd choice or whatever. At least "I am the search" isn't making this hire.

That’s really not difficult to figure out…Lesley Miles and Special Ed. What do they have in common other than being less than intelligent? If he’s tired of getting his arse kicked in the first round of the playoffs, LSU has shown a Natty is so easy even a caveman can do it.

I think it's actually the opposite and the only reason he would consider it. His easy path to the playoff through the BIG 12 will be gone once they move. LSU has already proven it can win it all in the SEC even with Orgeron at the helm. If Oklahoma comes in and becomes a perennial 8-4 team he will be fired. So he may come to LSU thinking he has a better chance to be successful in the SEC here. Which I think he would be.

OU was relevant in the 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's, 2010's, 2020's and I'll bet a dollar to a donut 2030's on. Not sure you understand "relevance" fully as it pertains to CFB.

Oklahoma is a pretty close job to LSU. We'd be arguing semantics trying to put one over the other, particularly with them coming to the SEC.
