Holding No-calls
There were a lot of them that helped TX. This one resulted in a TX touchdown on 3rd & 10. Score should not have been so close.

Have you gone back to see if the same was let go the other way? The holding by Texas was blatant but I didn't watch to see if LSU was getting away with the same thing.

re: Holding No-calls
I said this.

They were straight up tackling our guys and getting away with it.

It was the worst holding to go uncalled I have ever witnessed.. and keep in mind, we watch LSU play Alabama every season..

I asked this question in the other thread. Should our offense be prepared for games like this and we too hold until it is called?

Thankfully the refs finally started calling holding in the 4th quarter. I really don't think this game is close with pressure.. The holding absolutely prevented a ton potential pressure.

That's fair and I admit I didn't even check. I can't imagine we were tackling dudes on offense though.

I haven't gone back to look either and must admit that I don't watch our O-line while watching the game. It does seem as if that would jump off the screen if it happened. There's no denying that Texas got away with really bad holding a lot. This goes past the idea that holding can be called on every play.

Just watched the play where Chaisson and Logan both got hurt and noticed they tackled 3 of our DL on that one play.

re: Holding No-calls
Just to let you know, as an offensive lineman, if your man that you are blocking falls to the ground, you are coached to fall on him and not get up. Especially at the tackle position. Not saying that is the case here. I don’t really remember this play, but the more ya know I guess!

re: Holding No-calls
Does anyone know if LSU coaching staff was concerned about this - it was so blatant on TV even without replay.....tape should have beed sent to SEC office for clarification re any changes in interpretation of the holding rules. If so then LSU needs to adapt....if not, then these and the other SEC ref's need to be reminded what the rules are and these ref's reprimanded officially.....it was done throughout the game 0 from first qtr on....

Has anybody heard comments from coaches - it's a pretty doggone big deal!!

re: Holding No-calls
My intent is not to flame.

This is my understanding from reading dialogue on recruiting and development of OL. This is only my take away from what others have said. (I read SurlyHorns, Rivals, and the SECRant pretty much every day.)

My summary.:
It is “okay” to grab a defensive player by the chest plate,
as long as you don’t extend the arms.

If you reach and extend the arms and grab him, holding
If the DL turns to run, and your arms extend, holding
If you fire off the line, grab his chest, and hold so tight he can’t turn, no holding
If you fire off the line, grab his chest, and ride him to the ground without extending the arms, no holding
You can push with arms extended, no holding

Lots of recruiting dialogue about 300# High School O lineman who overpower smaller DT by brute strength. Zero technique, but tons of power. Much harder at the D1 level, equal strength on both sides of the ball.

Texas has been “ridiculed” for recruiting undersized OL, but they emphasize technique and strength and conditioning, and prefer that OL add the weight in college.

Have a good day.

Holding can be called on damn near every play. Also, every fan base bitches and complains about their guys getting held. Let’s not make this an LSU issue.

Officials interpret the rules slightly differently on a year to year basis based on feedback from coaches and injury reports, as well as statistics (do you want more scoring or less).
When SEC Director of Officials Steve Shaw visited during fall camp, he told the every SEC staff how officials would interpret the rules this year and what their "points of emphasis" would include. What we see as a blatant
"hold" may indeed be one, or it might be considered a legal block by the definition used by SEC officials this season.

I did, and no, not one time did an LSU blocker literally tackle a texass defender. It was really bad, and it wasn't just the line, it was the RB holding as well. But we knew we'd not get an evenly called game going in. If that game had been called right, texass only scores 21, at most. It's all good though, the better team won and that's what is important. Those people are as crappy as there is in college football. I have no respect for texass or their fans after the things they did Saturday. When a team or program resorts to ploys as they did it shows their true character, or lack thereof. Really sad.
