Bo had no modern success as DC. That was a huge part of the issue with his selection and his inability to adapt.

It's a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SEC over the last 5 years or so.

God don't rationalize a DC from days gone by.

Frick reaches/rationalizations.

Go get someone WE KNOW will have the schemes, adaptability, personality and coaching success for our D!

Freeman would be risky. Fickell is their real DC.

No he isn’t. Freeman is the DC and calls the plays. Freeman is a really bright dude. A guy that players love and that they can relate to. I’ve been doing a ton of research on all the possible candidates I can over the last couple months. Multiple scheme switching from a 4-3, 3-3-5, to 4-2-5 a good bit and allowing the athletes to make plays. Has 3 years running now of coaching top defenses at Cincinnati and is a potential HC candidate soon so he may not be here for long if he comes and has success. He’s the best young most proven option available imo aside from Leonhard who runs 3-4 and isn’t leaving his alma mater. Reeves is really good too but his scheme doesn’t align with anything Orgeron wants to do either.

Fickell is like Saban. He's the defensive guy. Everyone else just falls in line.

I like Freeman but more of a position coach at his current age and experience for a program like LSU. Same way Ohio ST viewed him as a LB coach

Why would a DC with success since 2015 come to LSU in the midst of a new precedent of firing an DC in 1 yr for not producing, rather than stay happy & paid where they are now...?

Because Freeman gets paid $600K a year at Cincy and they don't have unlimited budgets.

Pay him $1,000,000 with a bunch of incentives for performance.

Thanks for the Cliffs on Freeman. I wondered if he was like Saban’s DC and Fickle really laid out the gameplan. It appears that Freeman is the man (game plans, calls plays, etc) form the little research I did. Thee Bearcats have been tenacious on D in this modern offensive era. He may be too risky at this point, but could also turn out to be just what we need.

Is this the same DC that gave up 500 yards and 42 points to Ohio State last year, in non-COVID, normal times?

Bro if you can't rationalize the difference between talent/scheme, you have absolutely zero intelligence

You should not be a part of this conversation if you're this fricking dumb

I didn't watch this game, but talent disparity could have been an issue.

Thank you for explaining this to him. Last time I checked, we have a vastly more talented roster than Cincy

Makes Bo's second tenure that much more unbelievable

Lol dude at the end of the day it was a G5 team matching up against one of the 3 most stacked rosters in the country. If you’re gonna count out any candidate who loses to a far more talented team then you’re gonna overlook the best option damn near every time. The only time you’ll find the best option is when the guy has already established himself as the very clear best and is already on a ticking clock to become a HC. Those guys are only available a couple times per decade.

So which of the 3 points wins (UCF, Tulsa) at the end of the season, with equal talent, did the 'scheme" stand out? Was it in the 4th quarter of the game against Tulsa when the Bearcats gave up an 80 yard touchdown drive in less then 3 minutes to allow the game to be come tied at 24? The Head coach at Cincinnati is a former DC at Ohio State and Freeman was a player Ohio State. If they can't get scheme to even just slow down an offensive scheme that fickell coached against for 4 years while at Ohio State and Freeman saw at Purdue, not to mention personal rivals as they were both at Ohio State, then yes, I think it is rational to question the scheme against a modern, talented offense like what would be seen in the SEC West. Maybe Georgia will be slowed by this great "Scheme", which seems to be the unique twist of switching in game from 4-3 to the novel 3-3-5...

Jim Leonhard is probably the best in the nation. He has been a finalist for the Broyles award, and Wisconsin has the #1 defense in the country. There are many other good candidates in the attached link.

Marcus Freeman would be the up and comer.

Phil Parker would be the established Elite DC.
