quote:

News broke Monday LSU coach Ed Orgeron is naming a current staff member who hasn't been a full-time offensive coordinator in 20 years as offensive coordinator and is hiring a 73-year old wide receivers coach.

After watching fellow SEC members Alabama and Georgia battle toe-to-toe in the national championship game Monday night using true freshmen quarterbacks and an army of elite running backs, it suddenly hit me.

The dark ages of LSU football, when game day partying in the parking lot numbed the pain of the proceeding three and a half hours, might again be upon us.

quote:

Four of the five SEC head coaches who have been hired since the end of the regular season - Arkansas' Chad Morris, Florida's Dan Mullen, Texas A&M's Jimbo Fisher and Mississippi State's Joe Moorhead - are known for their progressive offensive philosophies.

Then, review Orgeron's questionable coaching hires since he was promoted from interim to head coach two days after the 2016 regular season finale.

quote:

For all the gaudy numbers Ensminger's offense put up against the weaker defenses in the SEC, the fact LSU scored one stinkin' offensive TD against the league's best defenses in losses to Alabama and Florida can't be ignored.

Then, there's Orgeron, who has continually waffled on what type of offense he wants.

quote:

Orgeron also believes that by hiring offensive consultant and veteran NFL receivers coach Jerry Sullivan as wide receivers coach and a possible passing game coordinator (whatever that means) that the Tigers will have a well-rounded offensive braintrust.

quote:

After losing the opener, LSU should win its remaining non-conference games against Southeastern, Louisiana Tech and Rice.

From there, the Tigers will have to hustle to finish 7-5.

quote:

If LSU qualifies to play in a bowl, defensive coordinator Dave Aranda will have well-earned his $2.5 million annual salary.

Then if there isn't vast improvement by the Tigers in 2019, there's just two years left on Orgeron's five-year contract, a manageable buyout since the rest of LSU's current buyouts should be paid off by then.

It's a downer to project such a gloomy future.

Maybe Ensminger will surprise all of us. Maybe his USC South offense will be the scourge of the SEC, going through the league like butter.

I know, I know. Somebody please drug-test me.

Higgins is right, but he’s upset his buddy Freeze isn’t being considered.

I’ll say it again, if everybody knows we are heading for the cliff, why doesn’t anybody apply the brakes?

That makes two of us.

LSU is not dedicated to winning. It’s dedicated to selling mediocrity and just enough to give you hope and keep you buying those tickets and parking passes.

Welcome to 1993

Everything these fricking clowns (BOS, F. King, Alleva, O) do REEKS of self preservation. I love my Alma mater, and I love my home state, but the dysfunction and corruption at every level of public institutions is incredibly disheartening.

It's almost as if the BOS along with F. King are resentful at the amount of attention the football program gets (along with the financial success). All moves made are of a complete half-assed effort, like the blunders being made are on purpose. And then you have goofy Joe Alleva who is too chickenshit to stand up for what he thinks and goes along with every decision and no pushback whatsoever.

Wait hold up, I thought the rant is the only place that is negative towards LSU football. This can't be right.

I’m not buddies with Hugh Freeze but I’m pretty pissed that he didn’t get an interview either. Hell, that no other candidates were interviewed.

... and, more than likely, everyone in question, who could apply the brakes, are gaining something from it.

are any of you guys paying attention? orgeron wanted freeze, but was told from the get-go by the lsu admin and the sec offices that freeze was off limits this year.

i'm not going to get down unless clap and brumfield both declare for the draft. otherwise we've got the nucleus for a good football team next year. the qb's and skill players will just have to step up.

Want to apply the emergency brake?

It would be a bold move.. TAF abruptly cutoff funding the football program. Would stop immediately. That's how you deal with the rats that run LSU..

You coonass baws south of I-10 are getting exactly what ya'll wanted at the expense of creating a nightmare for the rest of us LSU fans and destroying every ounce of equity the program had nationally. This will take a decade to recover from. Thanks assholes. But I stopped caring this week.. Why? The program and the school are ran by degenerate white collar thugs..

If they're no compliance problems Freeze would have been the BEST hire as OC. He beat Saban 2 years in a row.

apparently the ones who can apply the brakes don’t think we are headed for the cliff. So it doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks.

Typical Higgins. Always chicken little, he looks at the dark side of anything LSU. Struggling to remember a positive column from him
