So I'm guessing unless we're up by a run or two in the 8th we don't use Hess tonight and save him for Tues and Wed?

I can't imagine not using Hess if we are up by 1-3 with less than 6 outs left. You take the game by any means necessary.

If we are up in a 1 or 2 run game in the 8th or 9th, he will 100% pitch

This isn't how baseball works. If Russ throws 4, Newman 2, Bain 2 and were up 3-2 going into the 9th then you bring in Hess.

Here's what you need to know- If Hess pitches, we cannot lose but if we have a chance to take game 1 and it takes Hess then you give him an inning.

Hess pitches tonight if we have any kind of small lead late in the game. If you can steal the game tonight, you do it.

This is exactly what I was thinking, but wanted to get other opinions since Manerri said he needed the night off. I understand how baseball works, don't get the down votes for asking a debatable question.

Depends on the score, but Hess really needs some rest. If we're down, I don't waste him

Mainieri screwing with everyone. This is what's going to happen:

Reynolds: 1
Beck: 1
Walker: 1
Lange: 1
Gilbert: 1
Newman: 2
Hess: 2

They guy is human even if he doesn't look human a lot of the time. There is just so much an arm can take. Is one game worth possibly ruining the kid's career? There WILL be another game tomorrow.

Think about him instead of fan fantasies.

His fastball was about 6-7mph less in the last game. It looked like he was overcompensating and trying to make his ball move b/c he didn't have his stuff instead of just letting it do its thing. To me it says his arm was tired. That being said, is the lack of mph was by choice then he should be fine with almost 2 days rest. If it's b/c he was used a good bit more than normal, then ideally you don't throw him today at all b/c he will be useless the next 2 games.

I think that would be a mistake. He should be saved for Wed.

his overall velocity was down the last 2 games - not just the last one. Even though he hit 96 once or twice the game before, there were several 93-94.
I was downvoted into oblivion when I suggested it in a thread, but hey the Rant knows best. Then CPM said what he said after the last game.
