At the season kickoff dinner, Hess said
Was it a peek into the psyche of this year's team? All you have to do is roll a ball out there and we will win because we are LSU

You interpreting that from what he said says more about you than him.

You're right. There's no way a team fresh off a national championship appearance with the loss of a ton of senior leadership would ever think that way.

I just don't think that the attitude you are describing can be inferred from his statement.
I don't necessarily disagree with this:
We lost some talent due to the draft and graduation, but we lost a ton of leadership. Not just in the form of vocal guys like Kramer. Reynolds and Newman were 5th year guys, Poche a 4 year performer. Those guys had a stature that we don't have as much of on the roster this year, and it might be the biggest loss we had.
