Big Cat Rescue has articles about Mike in 2006. Although it doesn't say they got it from them, I figured that may be the case.
Good if not.

I’m not the most knowledgeable person on domesticated Tigers, but would Mike breed with a female in heat or would they be at more risk of attacking each other? I’ve always wondered. I know they spend the majority of their life in solitude in the wild.

I’m no animal expert, but but I’ve never seen any male pass up on a chance to get some.

LSU got Mike from a place in Indiana...not Florida.

These people were extremely anti-new Mike...
asked them where was their veterinary school that supported them, couldn't answer...

All these activists see is "tiger being put in a cage for people to look at. May be exposed to large crowds and loud noise".
What the refuse to recognize is that there is literally not a single tiger in the world who receives better care, and his habitat, though it could be larger, is as nice as the best zoos in the world and dramatically larger than most.

LSU originally tried to breed Mike I with another tiger, but neither Mike nor his concubine seemed to get along well enough to consummate the act. It hasn't been attempted again since that first failed attempt.
In recent years, LSU has released a statement regarding live tiger mascots stating that LSU does not support the captive breeding of tigers and will endeavor to obtain each successive mascot from a wildlife rescue shelter. Tigers from such shelters would be unable to survive in the wild, and euthanizing every captive tiger would be as unthinkable as hunting them down in the wild for their pelts.
When the time comes for a new "Mike" to be selected and crowned, Dr. Baker searches multiple shelters for a young tiger with just the right characteristics to rise to the throne in Baton Rouge. Those characteristics typically include physical appearance, age, health, and general temperament of the individual tiger.

Didn't our tiger come from Indiana?

Great Cats of Indiana, where LSU obtained Mike VI, was also shut down after a multi-year investigation by the USDA. The folks there had seemed like good people (and probably were good people), but there were a few issues with the facility and its records that led to it being closed down. Most issues revolved around available full-time vet care and licensing.

I believe Mike VI has a sister at the Jacksonville Zoo. They are from Florida.
