BATON ROUGE – LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell and linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. are among a group of 14 players who have been selected as semifinalists for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Thursday.
The play of Campbell and Perkins have been instrumental to LSU’s 6-2 record and No. 10 national ranking. Campbell has started seven games at left tackle and has been one of the most consistent linemen in the Southeastern Conference this year. He was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in LSU’s win over Florida.
Perkins has established himself as a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball, recording 36 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He’s also intercepted a pass and has seven quarterback pressures. Perkins was named the SEC Freshman of the Week following LSU’s win over No. 7 Ole Miss.
LSU is the only school in the nation with two freshmen on the list of semifinalists. Campbell is one of only two offensive linemen on the list, while Perkins is joined the list by three other linebackers.

Does this award winner have to run for about 400 yards in Tiger Stadium? Sorry, but us old guys still have nightmares from this

No shite. We're the reason for the name of this award.

Gotta imagine the freshman RB from Ole Miss has a leg up on this award.
Our guys are amazing and I can't wait for the future. Also give me the OT and LB all day but Judkins looks like he's gonna have 1500 yards rushing in the SEC his freshman year. Wild

I wouldn't say I cared.
Just wanted to keep others from having to look it up. Strange that the list was not on the official site yet. I had to pull it from the Baylor announcement.

Good grief that looks like a pic from the 50s??

Yet it feels so recent for many of us.

I would assume Judkins gets it based on the list

Campbell deserves it. A true freshman playing LT at an elite level in the SEC is unheard of.

As great as Perkins has been, it can't be overstated how incredible Campbell has been as a true freshman left tackle.

How happy do you think Perk is that he didn't end up going to AM? I bet you he thanks God things worked out the way they did. I know I do.

The hell it can't. His illegal man downfield penalty against Ole miss nullified my Brooklyn homie's first career catch.

Assuming they both keep busting arse and getting better, which one gets drafted higher in 2-3 years?
Left tackle and hybrid linebacker/edge rusher are maybe the most prized positions these days after quarterback.

Between the 2, has to be Campbell
Perkins has had some great plays, but Will has been an absolute beast all year

Wasn’t Shaun Alexander busted for running a cocaine ring? Or am I mixing him up with another former Bama RB
