I wonder what freedom Gnat has on beam?

I feel like she would be the type to study those high scoring routines and make the changes.

When did she officially get to start coaching this year anyway? When do they start constructing routines?

This is what I am saying. This year of seniors could never get to the level they needed with them essentially making up for 1/3 of the team. It’s not like finnegan et al didn’t occasionally make a mistake, but you weren’t nervous because they usually didn’t. With this group, I was always nervous for every routine, except for Sami’s bars and Edwards vault.

However, my heart is literally broken that Sami’s (potential) last bar routine went this way, considering her record. If she comes back though, it’s time to move on from her on beam at least. There should be enough depth to so that.

Absolutely love this team. This was going to be a tough season with a new coach.
To see them ladies fighting to the last rotation tonight for a spot in the Final 4.... Nobody expected that after back to back home losses this season. Very proud of them. Can't wait to go to meets again.

Are they returning? I haven’t heard any confirmations. Everyone competing this year is eligible for a 5th year. Scholarship limits still apply so it will be interesting to see what happens.

There really isn’t one I can look at and say yes, we need you. Maybe Sarah but let’s be honest she has stuck one vault in her entire career and is inconsistent on floor. I LOVE her though, so I would love for her to return. I’m just saying it’s not something I think is a game changer such a Skaggs and Baumann returning to Florida, or Ona Loper and Lexy Ramler for Minnesota.

LSU needs to sit down and look in the mirror when it comes to their routine construction and beam preparation this offseason.

This is definitely not one of LSU's strongest seniors classes (though they did good things at LSU), I expect us to be better next year, but we aren't winning the natty until we become realistic about what we put out there. We need smarter coaching. I said this even when DD was here. Not that Jay or DD are bad coaches, but the little things make a big difference.

LSU will have a lot of talent next year to work with next season. We will see how they utilize it. I hope this season is a learning experience for Jay and Gnat to make the changes we need moving forward.

The difference was obviously in strategy/preparation. Jay was outcoached by Farden. Period.

Again. Same song different year

Yes... Farden has continuously produced winners. We should have backed up the Brink’s truck to hire him when DD retired last year. But, as we did when Les retired, we made the lazy hire.

How often do gymnasts change routines from freshman to senior year on events like beam and bars? These seniors have literally been doing the same routine since day one except Dean on beam.

Do you think that has a factor in those routines not being constructed better?

However, that wouldn’t explain the upgrade in Kiyas routine

You just have to wonder what a healthy Rivers and Dunne could have done.

Everyone... even people who are not LSU fans see what’s been holding LSU back for years. It’s clear to see why they don’t make the changes when I watch Jay’s interview before they left. He’s in denial about some things, and was very offended when they asked about Haleigh’s last floor pass. Well guess what.. she almost overcooked that last pass again tonight.

Returning Sami on bars would be big. Having Sarah on vault would be nice, too, even though she always, always takes that step forward. I think Sarah can get better on floor, too. She’s so fun to watch. But just having them for depth on most every event would at least be comforting. As it is now, when someone is out, we are digging for backups.

Someone mentioned Finnegan and the other seniors of past years occasionally making a mistake. I’m sure they did, but I honestly can’t ever remember Sarah messing up! I hope we see that kind of perfection and consistency again soon, and I’m looking at Kiya and Haleigh to fill those shoes!

Lol - it was me and I saw finnegan make like one mistake ever on beam and in an article about the meet after, coaches were reported to have told the (then) sophomores (now seniors) you can’t expect the seniors (sarah specifically)to carry the whole team. They just have never been able to deliver in that way.

I do appreciate what the girls have done, but after a loss like this it’s hard not to focus on how or why things could have been different.

Sad ending to an entertaining season.

Thanks to the board experts who guide us “less than knowledgeable” gymnastics fans through the season!!

Always proud of our Tigers!! They’re incredible athletes and we should be strong going into next year!!

LSU had 9 scores that went 9.9+

7 of the 9 came from freshmen or sophomores.

This was our biggest but weakest senior class in years. And we have one junior, who has maybe made one lineup her entire collegiate career. I’m looking forward to next year!

I do want to give huge props to both Kiya and Haleigh on coming back strong. It was encouraging to see Haleigh come back on beam and give a clutch performance. In my opinion she shouldn’t have to share that vault title, but the judges like their Sooners.

And you could see that Kiya wasn’t completely comfortable on beam, but you just knew that she was NOT coming off.

They both looked awesome tonight and looking forward to watching them kill it next year!

You have to keep in mind that only two of the seniors (Desiderio and Campbell) were originally given a scholarship. Dean, Durante, Edwards, Gunter (and Standley) were all walk-ons. Not much was expected of them. But to have Sami give you 3 events, Edwards two, and Dean anywhere from 2-3 events over the last two years....we can’t overlook that. Campbell had been a rock on beam all of her career. Injuries clearly plagued her this year. Desiderio has always been great on beam, but nerves did get the best of her at times this year. And she was a little inconsistent of floor.

While I hoped LSU would pull it out tonight, I did have my doubts. Regionals was not good. The team looked mentally weak all year. And couple that with a stubborn coach who doesn’t like to make adjustments...well here we are. Bob Moore has been the best coach on the team all year. We actually saw progress on vault. Can’t say that for the other events.

Thank you for pointing that out. Haleigh had the highest score for the team on beam after it appears she initially lost that spot. Big props for her.

I’m very excited to see the freshman blossom into next year, and the sophomores turn into new leaders on the team. I can see both classes taken even bigger steps moving forward.
