Gymnastics coach Jay Clark promoted to “co-head coach” with DD Breaux
Also set to receive a $35k per year raise

quote:

One of new athletic director Scott Woodward's first acts was to give gymnastics two more scholarship, and now the next big move for LSU's gymnastics team is the promotion of associate head coach Jay Clark to co-head coach.

Clark's current contract ends June 31, and in his proposed contract, he sees a promotion and an increase of base salary from $165,000 to $200,000, a 64 percent increase in postseason incentives from $61,050 to $100,000, an added academic bonus of $5,000 and an extra $2,388 in vehicle allowances. His new contract is set to run through June 30, 2024, but first, it is subject to LSU Board of Supervisors' approval on Friday.

Clark has been an assistant under D-D Breaux for six years, racking up numerous assistant of the year awards and served as a primary recruiter for LSU. Since his arrival prior to the 2013 season, LSU has gone to five Super Sixes, now called Four on the Floor, and has won the Southeastern Conference three straight years.

Great move to show him he is coach in waiting when DD hangs it up. Gotta keep Jay.

Betting one or two years max for DD (her choice)

He wouldn't have been promoted like this without her input

Also believe if they had won the Natty this year, then she'd have already retired.

Not that she looks tired by any means, but just an unfounded, unsupported feeling

I don't understand this...... how does an AD "decide" to give 2 more scholarships? Isn't that decided by the NCAA?

Downvote if you must, but with total incentives, we are paying over 300 Grand a year for a "co-head-coach" in gymnastics?!

With that same money, you could give every cop on the LSU force a $5,000 a year raise... and make them work detail for every home football game!

I hope it is that Lexie stays in some capacity as a grad assistant or something. After reading the story about her last season that was in the paper I said then I hope she stays around here. So tough, so compassionate and such a leader. I think she would make a great coach.

I don’t think Lexie is staying. She has been home so little during her gymnastics career, so I think she’s ready to be home with her family.

357, maybe it was discussed/maybe it was not, but during one of the televised meets this year one of the girls gave him a GTH look after he hugged her. Anything to be concerned about here?

Tigerbait357, was this simply just b/c Jay deserves the promotion and raise? Or did another program try to poach him and LSU needed to do this to keep him?

I know it has been common knowledge that he was heir apparent to DD when he was first hired here. Was this him making waves b/c DD is taking too long to let go and retire?

Every year, multiple programs have tried to poach him. Florida (multiple times), Stanford, Missouri, Arkansas, Arizona State, Alabama among other Schools.

Jay has been wanting more money for quite some time. It was either accept another job that is above being a assistant coach or the promotion to Co-HC. He could not get much more money as an "assistant coach" but the change in title changes that significantly. He now has a much larger base salary with a lot more incentives.

There is a sense of frustration for him because he wants to be a HC again and DD was suppose to retire years ago.

I don't see DD staying around a lot longer. Just from practices she seems a bit more burned out as of late but thats my opinion. Some of LSU's best recruiting classes are coming up now so that is where things will get interesting. She wanted to stay at first to enjoy the new facilities for a bit, but with the mass influx of talent (2019, 2020 and 2021 classes) , NC's are a strong possibility over the coming years.
