On Travonte Valentine-
“I can’t take triple teams like that. I have to use straight technique while I’m in there. I’ve got to be technique sound, be able to pass rush and move and bend. He’s in there clogging the hole, driving people back,” Gilmore said. “He takes up double teams and eats double teams up. It’s not like he’s taking double teams and just sitting there, man. He’s pushing them back.”
“(When) we teach him technique, he’s going to be unstoppable. He learns 10 percent technique, he’s going to be real good,” Gilmore said. “After practice, we get on the side and work on our plays. He has to learn the defense, learn the concepts.”

I like that Gilmore sounds motivated. I like the talk of competition at nose tackle. I hope it translates to the field this fall.

I'm buying the hype. Les wouldn't have let him back unless the potential was astronomical.

Good God.
If TV ever actually plays in a game it will literally be impossible for him to live up the hype. No matter how good he may be.

I'm liking the screen name.
Pretty good article too. Thanks for posting.

At this point, if Valentine actually plays a down of football at LSU I'll consider it a success regardless of his production. It'd be a damn miracle in my book.

I've been wanting a guy on the DL like this for so long. LSU really got away from its traditional DL domination over the past few years and that was a terrible sight to see.
I'm as excited to see what Valentine can do as much as I am for the passing game, Guice, and Key.

That's my thought as well. I generally don't fall victim to getting caught up in undue hype, but there has to be a reason Les brought a guy back even though he's more or less been a pain in the arse for two years. I can't really remember any other player that Les dismissed/let leave and then "re-signed" later on.

This is making me so excited I am having trouble sleeping at night
Like a 10 year old on Christmas Eve but I'm a grown arse man and its college football 10 days away

As I mentioned before TV needs to learn that playbook. Get his concepts down make sure he doesn't jump offsides and makes stupid mistakes. He actually has high motor.
Gilmore and TV are going to make a good 1 to 2 punch.

Not only letting him back but also the amount of hoops they jumped through to let him back.

Exactly... The hype bar is already set at Lavalais / Dorsey actual performance level.

Val could have like 20 tackles this year but if he is eating double teams every play, we are good. Beckwith without a guard in his face is a scary thought

Gilmore can play some outside in a 3-4. He moves really well (as does Lac) for a tackle. I'm sure Aranda is going to use some of that athleticism to get the best 3 (or 4) DL on the field. My only question is keeping them fresh.
Ed Alexander looks to be the NT of the future, but I would love for him to take a RS to get stronger, improve technique and all that. Just may not be an option, particularly if we have any more injuries on the DL.
Herron and Godchaux are more in the mold of Lac - they can play along the line, I wouldn't necessarily expect dominant NT play out of either of them - but having them helps with the loss of Lac at this point. Really, only TV, Big Ed Alexander and Gilmore (who is much rangier and more athletic than the big guys) can really anchor a 3-4 at this point, from a pure space eating standpoint.

It becomes 10 on 9 defense at that point, and 10 on 8 with a drop back passer.
I like those odds.
