Because he was head and shoulders the best receiver in the draft

Fair, but the argument could easily be made that they needed to draft someone to help protect Joe

Its hard to get the ball to Chase when hes running for his life or sidelined with ANOTHER injury

Their is plenty of interior lineman to get later. Their is only one Jamar Chase.

We’ll more than likely take OL 2 and 3. Would love to get Jenkins from Oklahoma state or Eichenberg from ND.

Hester made the argument that having a dynamic receiver would actually help protect Joe. He said they’d have to drop another player into coverage and having someone that could get open quickly makes it easier on the linemen. Made sense to me.

I don’t think that is a valid argument. What if they had taken that position last year. Draft an OL with the first pick instead of Burrow? Hell no! A great QB is way more important. So is a game changing receiver. That’s just a far more important piece than an OT. And when drafting, you can’t allow value to slip by.

The offensive line apparently needs help, but how many? Surely some of the five are good. They got one guy in free agency. Hopefully they can get another in the draft; they have practically another first rounder.

They have a couple of talented tackles already. Their need on the line is in the interior and interior linemen don't get drafted that early. They could have traded back, but there are plenty of options in the middle rounds to improve the interior.

it's the Bengals, best thing for Burrow will be when he gets the hell out of there, preferably before a career ending injury, or worse

You do know the draft has more than one round, correct?

And that guys who are drafted after the first round are actually very good players who have very long NFL careers.

Best player in this draft. Sure starter in his first year.

It was a no brainer. They can pick up line help later.

You do realize that by drafting a OT with their first pick Joe could never get the ball to Chase because Chase would not be around for their second pick. So your quote above doesn't make sense.

One thing that isn't mentioned but I think played a role, even if subconsciously, was Jefferson's success this year. Jefferson was the 4th of 5 WRs taken last year in what many said was the deepest WR class in a long time...maybe ever. All he did was put up HUGE numbers as a rookie. Outpacing every other rookie WR by a LARGE number. And many thought, even last season, that Chase was the better prospect/player. So if the second best WR at LSU in 2019 could do THAT as a pro, what will the best WR in 2019 do?

If only the Bengals had someone on their team that played with both of them and could shed some light on their abilities.
