Why does the trophy say 2020? I thought we were the 2019 champs, since the 2020 season hasn’t started. Taking this as a sign we repeat!

Clearly they use the year the game was played, just like the players wore a 2020 patch. But I hate that. It's confusing to casual observers. For instance, I already had to explain to my wife that we are 2019 champs after she kept citing 2020 after seeing the CFP insignias all over.

Never presented but when the Coaches Poll started awarding that trophy (in 1986 I believe), they allow any team prior to that year who finished on top of the poll to order a trophy for the year that happened. LSU obviously took advantage of that offer
