We also watched a great DLine neutralize one of the best offenses in the country.

So shut the frick up?

Games are won and lost in the trenches.

A great d line can make the linebackers and secondary look better. Usually doesn’t work the other way around.

Here’s how football works.

1. Get a QB
2. Protect your QB
3. Go after the other teams QB

And watch Etienne pick up 7 on every carry.

I used to believe this but wouldn't the 3-4 defense disprove that?

Great LBs prevent that more than dline, by plugging the gaps

There is no plugging the gaps if the DL doesn't absorb blockers. Without a good DL, there are just gaps.

No one said useless. I was asking would a 3-4 defense disprove that games are won in the trenches.

I can understand the 3-4 defense helping to defend the passing game, but not so much the running game anymore.

In a 4-3 you can hide a weakness at LB if necessary. Look at LSU's 2011 squad.

A 3-4 is heavily LB driven though. You have to have a thumper in the middle. So that's not much of an option while Aranda is here.

If you have 3 DL that can eat up blocks from 4 OL, this is winning in the trenches

I would say they are equally as important in the run game. Their duties in both situations is to eat up blocks, and open lanes for the LBs to put pressure. If you are only concerned with stats, then maybe they don't stand out as much in a 3-4, but look no further than the UCF game to see what a dominant DL can help accomplish. The #1 problem with our defense, was the DL not getting this done.

Why we barely heard Quinnen Williams name the whole game cause a good O-Line game planned for him and Bama corners got cooked as in a result
