re: Ghosts of Christmas Past - Les Miles' Offensive Coordinators
Human nature tends to make us just remember how something ended. And nearly all coaching tenures end with a downturn. Just the nature of the profession. Some of those guys weren't as bad as people make them out to be, especially when you try to remember the highs instead of the lows. I still remember Stud pretty fondly for stepping into an impossibly difficult situation that season and making the most of it. Cam's offense had its moments. Don't forget that when Ensminger first took over as interim the offense started throwing up huge numbers (yes against lesser defenses), but that was just him calling Cam's playbook. Cam's offense wasn't terrible. He just wasn't as good of an in-game playcaller as he was a play designer. Crowton had some big moments, too.

I guess I just don't see what the point is in continually bringing up these former coaches and trying to poke fun at them. They busted their butts for LSU. Things eventually didn't work out, and we replaced them. No need to kick them afterwards. Geaux Tigers.

Yeah, seeing this offense in action is great but really makes me wonder how much talent was wasted bc of the offense.
2005 was first year, disrupted, and it was always going to be USC-Texas no matter what.
2006 was a NC caliber team.
2011 and 2012 would’ve won NC with an offense capable of scoring on Bama just a little bit.

Crowton gets a ton of credit for 2007. That offense was great and carried the team after the defense collapsed midway through the season. If Periloux sticks around who knows what would’ve happened.

and yet you never had a problem with O's 1st 2 offenses that were vastly less productive than 2 of miles' last 3 full seasons.

I'm shocked that lsu fans would label the most successful tenure in the program's history as driving a Ferrari like a beater.

They are miserable with their lives, like Texas locker room, no AC in Moms basement.

Cool, except Miles also has 3 of the top 5 PPG squads also.

quote:

We sucked from 90-96. Pre 1970’s offenses sucked for the most part. Bowl games haven’t always counted in stats.
But, Miles is the worst LSU coach ever, so surely a great '70s offense could best his bad '70s offense, and any 21st century offense should easily dethrone such shitty dinosaur offenses, but still we wait.
I do think this year's could ease into Top 5, maybe #1, but that doesn't erase Miles offensive accomplishments.

think everyone had high hopes for him. I'm not sure he was a bad hire, or he just wasn't allowed much autonomy

The guy was an NFL OC or HC for 15 years with numerous top 10 nfl offenses.

He was incredibly over qualified to be the OC at LSU.

He's offense was very QB dependant...simple as that

To me, your point seems to be to shite on the most successful coach in our history 3 years after he has been gone. Bringing him up is completely unnecessary to enjoying what is happening at LSU currently.

THIS!! CLM represented LSU awesomely, with fun, humor, and class. Not just LSU but COLLEGE FOOTBALL has some of its best moments and press clips from CLM. You can’t savage the man for the last three years and not thank him for all the victories and Mad Hatter moments. Add all of that to the fact that he is a damn exceptional man, husband, and father. Good luck, Coach Miles. And thank you for the NC and LSU memories I will never forget!!

All 3 of those guys AND Kragthorpe all had the rant’s favorite “toss dive” in their playbook.

Good riddance Les.

I agree completely, just because were riding high right doesn’t mean we’ve won anything yet. Until O can put skins on the wall he can’t be compared to those who have. I wasn’t meaning to make a comparison I’m just in awe of the hire Miles made at Kansas and the fact that even after all this he still refuses to change one bit. He even inherited a highly recruited QB (transfer from Pitt) who he refuses to start lol.

I think I understand why. For a long, long time people on this board thought that something was wrong with our offensive strategy. And others on this board (you know who you are) would continue to defend Miles and the offense with stats and other bs. I think some people just feel vindicated.

You Miles negatigers have an obsession with trying to run down what was a very productive era of LSU football for the current one and coach that have accomplished very little to this point. It remains to be seen if this team is what people think they are...

i know it's a huge 'what if' but think of the possibilities if the LSU Football program under the leadership of CLM would of had a better understanding of the offense.(as in QB's and offensive line) (QB development, play calling?)
CLM was good for the program but he had issues.

2 of his 4 top 5 LSU all time scoring offenses came after 2008. Yep he has 4/5 seasons with most TDs by rush or pass, a purely offensive stat. He owns #1 #2 #3 and #5 IIRC.

Everybody's best offensive stats are in that era, compare LSU's stats in that era to their peers in that era not to past LSU offenses that punted on 3rd downs.

i don’t really fault Les as much for this one.

Kragthorpe stepped down less than a month before the opener. Waaaaaaay too late to go out and search for anyone new. So we promoted a guy already on staff.
