Pitching very young, will have to grow up quick.
They will find out quick though, Texas and Notre Dame will be tough non conference weekends.

Hess reported some forearm soreness prompting the coaches to shut him down for fall. Also, the aforementioned reasons played into the decision.
I have the fall stats compiled if anyone wants me to post them, say so.

Always interested in baseball. Thank you.

I agree with your pitching selections. I think that Fontenot has to be considered the front runner for the Sunday slot, at this time. Spring practice could change my feelings on this, however.

How long is he suspended for and what for?
re: Full Fall Baseball StatsPosted by ScubaTiger on 11/13/17 at 12:47 pm to labeast335
Woley's suspension is indefinite and due a violation of team rules. That's probably all we will ever be told, officially.
re: Full Fall Baseball StatsPosted by labeast335 on 11/13/17 at 12:55 pm to ScubaTiger
So do we know if he is coming back at all or has PM said anything?
re: Full Fall Baseball StatsPosted by ScubaTiger on 11/13/17 at 1:05 pm to labeast335
Nothing said other than what's above.

I went through the LSU Baseball Data twitter feed to catalog the exit velocities.
Here are the top ten from the fall:
Date Player Exit Velo
10/10/2017 Jake Slaughter 109.3
10/10/2017 Jake Slaughter 108.4
10/17/2017 Jake Slaughter 108.2
11/3/2017 Jake Slaughter 108.1
10/23/2017 Beau Jordan 107.5
11/8/2017 Daniel Cabrera 107.2
10/4/2017 Jake Slaughter 107
11/2/2017 Jake Slaughter 107
10/3/2017 Daniel Cabrera 106.9
10/4/2017 Nick Webre 106.8
There were 99 instances that I found recorded on the feed. Each homerun the recorded and then the top 4 posts. I think I got them all.
Here are the leaders in instances:
Name Count
Daniel Cabrera 19
Jake Slaughter 17
Hunter Feduccia 11
Zach Watson 10

So what are we feeling may be the opening day starters?
C - Feduccia
1b - Webre
2b - Broussard or Templet or Woley (this one still seems wide open)
SS - Smith
3B - Slaughter
LF - Cabrera
CF - Watson
RF - Duplantis
DH - Br. Jordan
SP - Gilbert or Hess
I imagine Beau will play a good deal still in LF as Cabrera comes in to pitch in relief.

quote:Bryce Jordan is better and just as tall.
1b - Webre
quote:Gilbert is Friday. That's all that is certain at this point. I think Hess goes Saturday and Fontenot goes Sunday to start. Hilliard or Labas in the midweek.
SP - Gilbert or Hess

I think it's Broussard and Hal Hughes fighting for 2B right now.
The 1B/DH spot, and LF when Cabrera isn't pitching or another OF is sitting and Cabrera slides over, will be where the Jordans and Webre get the bulk of their ABs.
I think there is going to be about a 70/30 split with Feduccia and Doolittle. Feduccia's bat will hopefully make it tough to take him out of the lineup, which may mean some DH duties for him as well.

Figure Feduccia weekend and Doolittle mid-week action. Doolittle maybe taking some Sundays too.

My projected opening day lineup:
C-H. Feduccia
1b-Br. Jordan
2b-H. Hughes
SS-J. Smith
3b-J. Slaughter
Lf-D. Cabrerra
Cf-Z. Watson
Rf- A. Duplantis
DH-N. Webre
Now having said the above let me say this. In an article in the advocate yesterday CPM said he was very concerned about his infield defense. I think this will lean him toward Hughes at 2nd OR he even mentioned Hughes at SS which would slide J Smith over to 2nd??! Not saying I agree but that is what the article said. Also the DH spot will likely change around a good bit in the 1st month b/w Nick Webre,Beau Jordan, Nick Coomes and maybe Mason Templet unless Webre can prove early that he can be consistent and add some nice production out of the DH role.

I agree with all of this and hope that it never comes to pass.
I think Josh Smith is going to have a breakout year. And I think he's a shortstop long term (beyond LSU).
re: Full Fall Baseball StatsPosted by rookietiger995 on 11/14/17 at 2:18 pm to ProjectP2294
D1 article that was put out this afternoon made it sound like CPM is a little uncomfortable with Slaughter at 3rd. It hinted that Smith could slide over to 3rd and Slaughter would move over to 2nd base, putting Hughes at SS. I don't think any of this happens..I think Slaughter will be fine at 3rd and if Hughes can hit anything north of his weight he will likely hold down 2nd, keeping Smith at SS(where he needs to be)
Not really worried about 1st. Bryce has looked comfortable over there all fall. Other than the occasional over throw that the 6ft plus guy may get I don't see an issue there.
