Swede Mondo Duplantis broke the men’s pole vault world record for a third time, clearing 6.19 meters, or more than 20 feet, 3 inches, in Belgrade on Monday.

Way to Geaux, Mondeaux, we're all proud of you. Keep bending your pole bebe

I know it is petty, but it still irks me that he doesn't claim the damn country he grew up in.

His mother is Swede, he may have been given dual citizenship but was born and raised in the USA!!
Apparently his mom is the boss if that family, his dad was a championship vaulter, but allowed his son to jump for Sweden, IF he had a choice!!!

I'm probably in the minority with this thinking, but as far as I'm concerned he is the elusive fourth face on "LSU's Mt Rushmore."
You can now go completely Portuguese with LSU's monument, as only first names are necessary.
Pete, Shaq, Joe and Mondo, understood to be the greatest college basketball player, arguably the greatest NBA center, the greatest college quarterback, and now the greatest pole vaulter ever,...pretty much with limited debate.

He sold out his country because it was financially beneficial for him.

I could think of 1000 people that would deserve to go on there before him

And the main drawback is low polling numbers on the rant. Seems like a savvy decision.

Yeah, the money and support given to him by Sweeden had nothing to do with his choice.

He had a Swedish mother and an American father. He spent 9 months in the US and 3 in Sweden every year. The Swedes paid him big money to vault for them, plus gave him an automatic pass to the Olympics and World Championships. The US was making him compete at trials each time and gave him no money.
Added to this is the fact that there is no market in the US for track and field. In Europe it's big. Imagine that the best pro football player in the world had an American mother, a German father, spoke perfect English, lived three months a year in the US but lived in Germany. Wouldn't it be foolish of him to play pro football for some shite league in Germany?
